#WWWWednesday: 3 April 2024

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I missed last week’s Wednesday post but in all honesty, I haven’t been reading all that much so I don’t have a whole lot to update. Over the past two weeks, I’ve finished reading 4 books.

The Wolf and the Wildflower by Stacy Reid ★★★★☆
This had the most bonkers histrom plot but in the best way! I loved their chemistry, sexual journey and relationship, this also covered some pretty emotionally heavy stuff. This was an enjoyable romp!

The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by Marianne Cronin ★★★★½
Heartfelt, heartbreaking, and wonderful storytelling—I loved it. Check out my review!

(ARC) To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods (To Gaze Upon Wicked Gods #1) by Molly X. Chang ★★½
I read this with Becky and phew, to say we were disappointed might be an understatement! This plot was executed poorly and the romance… Was, indeed, a colonizer romance. RTC after pub day but I wouldn’t recommend this. Very sad. 😞

Romancing Mr Bridgerton (Bridgertons #4) by Julia Quinn ★★★☆☆
Unpopular opinion alert: I was bored to tears reading this! I also thought Colin was too much of an arse to find attractive and Penelope was too much of a pushover when it came to him. Overall, it was “meh” but I know I’m very much in the minority with my feelings, lol. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Starless Sea ⇢ 22%

It’s happening! I’m finally reading this! I’m glad I’m buddy-reading this with Chris cos I have many thoughts that I’ll bombard him with (LOL, sorry Chris!) 😂 It’s weird, magical, whimsical and cool. I’m enjoying it!

The First Binding ⇢ 5%

I’m so glad I’m buddy-reading this with Leslie because I have a feeling I’m gonna need the motivation to keep going. This is a chunky beast with 97 chapters and they’re long ones too (weeping)! It’s also much slower going than I anticipated… I’m only four chapters in but I’m really hoping it picks up!

Let’s see where my mood takes me after this!

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends!

    • I was very confused at the start but I’m now really enjoying Starless Sea! Can’t wait to get back to it every time I have to put it down 🙂 TFB is very intimidating, even as I’m reading it, lol. I hope it picks up soon though cos I love the concept of it (very similar to Starless Sea and I’m a sucker for books about books/stories in stories)!

  1. I loved The Wolf and the Wildflower! One of these days I’ll read The Starless Sea. One of these days… I hope The First Binding picks up soon for y’all. Sounds like a lot of book to have to slog through it.

    • The Wolf and the Wildflower was quite the romp! I’m keen to read more by Stacy Reid 🙂 The Starless Sea started off weird and confusing but I’m about 40% through now and I can’t wait to return to it every time I have to put it down. I hope you love it whenever you get to it! And YES, LOL, it’s definitely a lot of book to slog through so I hope it picks up soon.🤞🏽

    • Starless Sea started off quite weird and confusing but now that things are slowly making more sense, I’m finding that I don’t want to put it down. I can’t wait to get back to it at the end of each day, lol. Ooh, I’m so curious to know what you think of Leslie F*cking Jones! Happy reading 🙂

      • The audiobook of LESLIE F*CKING JONES is a lot longer than I expected for a 300 page book. I can’t help but wonder if she goes off script a lot as the narrator 🤣. Hands down though I’m glad I’m listening to it rather than reading the physical copy. I’ve always thought she was hilarious. I’m only 15% through, so plenty more to go!

  2. I’m on chapter 7 now and it has picked up a bit! It might be what sucks me into the story, well I hope so. haha!! I read Starless Sea when it came out and it’s definitely weird. lol

    • I’m so slow but I finally reached Chapter 6 this morning and I get the feeling it will pick up! Slowly… But it will! It’s funny that both Starless Sea and First Binding are books about books with stories in stories. I have to admit that I’m enjoying the way it’s done in Starless Sea a lot more than in First Binding—so far! I hope that changes and the latter gets better. I’m gonna message you about theories and what not, lol

      • I think the difference is the SIZE and that First Binding is a monster!! hahaha. I think it will get there. I thought it was picking up a bit before the weekend craziness happened!

    • Yeah, I heard about the controversy before reading it although I didn’t spend too much attention to the details. I didn’t focus on the author’s identity, of course, cos I think that’s irrelevant but I have to agree with what was said about the romance. It just didn’t work 😒 I was very disappointed ☹️
