Since last week I’ve finished 4 books. None of these were “planned” reads but I ended up loving all of them!
The Thursday Murder Club (Thursday Murder Club #1) by Richard Osman ★★★★☆
I loved this humorously cosy murder mystery and how the writing made me feel like I was part of the quartet in the retirement village! 😂 Check out my review.
Pride and Protest by Nikki Payne ★★★★½
Not sure why this Pride and Prejudice retelling isn’t talked about more but I really enjoyed it. The dual POV, the modern setting, the ultimate simp that is Dorsey.
A Festive Feud (Strawberry Hollow #2) by Maren Moore ★★★★½
Holy granola, this was way steamier than the first book and it is quite instalove but I still ate it up. I loved the Ice Princess vs Laidback Lumberjack rivalry between Emma and Jackson and how their friendship evolved with their sexual relationship. It worked (for me anyway)! Read for a fun festive good time. 🎄
Song of Silver, Flame Like Night (Song of the Last Kingdom #1) by Amélie Wen Zhao ★★★★½
I finished this book last night and I’m still digesting it. I loved how this was steeped in Chinese history, folklore, culture, and belief. I loved how the author addressed colonialism, and the erasure of culture and history to create a “peaceful” homogenous society. I also really enjoyed learning more about the magical system based on qi and yin and yang energies. This was beautifully written and I’m so glad I have the ARC for book two cos I’m starting it right away!
After finishing the first book last night, I immediately started Dark Star Burning, Ash Falls White and so far, it’s dark and intense and I think we’re in for an action-packed angsty time! I don’t know if I’m ready for this but we’re diving straight in anyway, lol. 😂
Who knows what the mood will dictate! 🤷🏻♀️

I’m really excited about Zhao’s sequel. So, I’m looking forward to your thoughts. It’ll be a bit before I can get to it because I’ll be waiting on the Illumicrate edition to arrive. They’re usually pretty slow. Lol.

A Pride and Prejudice retelling you say… I will have to check that out! Looks like you’re ending the year on a high, Dini. I hope it follows through into 2024 for you 🙂
