#WWWWednesday: 6 September 2023

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday, I finished four books.

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels #1) by Ilona Andrews ★★★★☆
After hearing about this urban paranormal fantasy for years, I finally picked it up on a whim and got sucked in completely! Andrews throws readers into this world head first and it’s admittedly overwhelming at first but the characters, the dry sarcastic humour, and the badass boss that is Kate Daniels make it worth the initial chaos. I want to binge this whole series so bad!

The Duke Effect (The Rogue Files #7) by Sophie Jordan ★★★¾
I enjoyed this much more than the book before it despite being about the sister I liked least in that one. There’s mistaken identity, forced proximity, and a bit of forbidden romance, and it results in intense sexual tension, angst, and the emotional awakening of two characters known for their stoicism and logical brains.

The Virgin and the Rogue (The Rogue Files #6) by Sophie Jordan ★★★☆☆
This was a Fated Mates podcast rec and y’know, those recs have been hit/miss for me so far! This one was more miss but I enjoyed it enough to check out the next book (which I liked a lot more)! Sadly, this was just boring and I found the chemistry sorely lacking.

Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score ★★★★☆
I was worried when it took me quite a while to get into the story. The romance is pretty insta (at least. on Sy’s part) and it was a little too cheesy for me personally, especially the ending! But I loved the small community and found family vibes so much, plus the slight mystery aspect to the house’s history was cool too! Overall, a fun and surprisingly steamy read.

  • Magic Burns41% → Listen, I am *obsessed* with Kate Daniels and so far these books are making me want to read through the night and say “screw my responsibilities!”, which I sadly can’t do but I really, really want to. 😂
  • Rival Radio62% → Haven’t returned to this yet!
  • The Stand-In16% → Haven’t yet returned to this!

If I don’t get sick of it, I might just end up binge-reading all the Kate Daniels! 😂😍

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

  1. I’ve been meaning to read Maggie Moves On. Your thoughts have me wanting to push it up the list. Although, slow start scares me a bit. But I can handle instant love. I hope your binge reading keeps working for you!

    • It was definitely a lot of fun and the community aspect made me love it SO much. It does get quite cheesy though and maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood for that kinda cheese? Also, kinda instalove which added to the cheesy factor. But it was fun and I feel like maybe I’m in the minority when it comes to this book cos everyone seemed to love it immediately! 😂 I hope you enjoy it if you pick it up, Deanna!

    • I think I might be an oddity though because everyone else seemed to really love Maggie Moves On! I enjoyed it but it wasn’t a new favourite. Sorry to hear you’re in a reading slump though, Andie! 🥺 Have you tried reading a different genre or a graphic novel or something not the usual to break you out of it? I hope you manage to find something to hook you back in again!

  2. I started Magic Bites yesterday. I’m listening to a dramatized version of it and I’m not sure how I feel about that but you’re right you get thrown in immediately and I don’t really know what to think of it yet.
