#WWWWednesday: 23 August 2023

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I finished six books though to be fair, I skimmed through one.

(KU) Sold to the Duke by Joanna Shupe ★★★☆☆
Will you have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit for this steamy Victorian novella? Yes. While I get the FMC’s pride and perspective, I do think it was a little hard to believe she would choose to suffer so much to survive when she was given the option to not…? But the sexual tension was 10/10 and I loved seeing the MMC tell himself it wasn’t gonna happen when we all know otherwise!

The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark #0.5) by Kresley Cole ★★★½
This was my first book by Kresley Cole and another “Fated Mates made me read it” book. All I can say was that it was a little unhinged? 😂 I was also very confused about the setting (seemingly modern and historical?), the paranormal aspect and some of the character motivations, but I loved the snark and my intrigue grew the more I read! I’m keen to check out the rest of the books.

(KU) Unbreakable Bond (Fated Mates #1) by Jess Bryant ★★☆☆☆
I thought I knew what I was getting into with the whole “fated mates” thing but the instalove was too much for me. This had an interesting premise so it’s a shame that the character’s arcs took such a backseat to the sex. Not to mention how repetitive their monologues were.

(KU) Unbelievable Faith (Fated Mates #2) by Jess Bryant ★★☆☆☆
Did I learn my lesson from book one? Let’s just say I hoped it could get better and then just leave it at—I’m sorry to say—nope! 😅 I skimmed this entirely and yes, I’m counting it as a read cos I got to the very end and yes, I know I’ve only got myself to blame, lol.

A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3) by V.E. Schwab ★★★★★
This was by far the best book in the trilogy. There’s plenty of action and character growth, and I loved how everything was wrapped up. It’s heartbreaking and hopeful and UGH, All. My. Feels were smooshed. I loved it so much! 😭

(ARC) Love & Resistance by Kara H.L. Chen ★★★★½
I really enjoyed this debut! The character growth was fantastic and I think the themes/issues of high school bullying, racism, bigotry, and social media toxicity were addressed and handled well. The author’s approach was unique and made me appreciate the story more!

  • Shucked60% → Ugh, I love it so much. The way Canterbary writes characters with their chaotic but lovely personalities and intense chemistry + sexual tension is perfection. Like, Beckett needs to be stopped—this man’s simp energy is just too good!
  • Role Playing 6% → This far in and I already know I’m going to love it. Maggie is a moo!
  • Rival Radio62% → Haven’t returned to this yet
  • The Stand-In16% → Haven’t yet returned to this!

Romance, romance, romance? And maybe a bit of fantasy… 😂

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

    • I know, it was a close one but those two last books made up for the “meh” romances. I’m such a big fan of Canterbary’s books but I still haven’t touched her backlist yet so I’m defo going to need to change that SOON. I absolutely adored Shucked 😍 I already need the next book NOW!
