#TopTenTuesday: Romance & Fantasy Goodreads Award Winners

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is actually: Genre Freebie (Pick a genre and build a list around it.)

As I was thinking about what to do for today’s genre freebie topic, I randomly decided that I would look at the Goodreads Award Winners of the past 5 years but instead of focusing on one genre, I would look at my most read genres: romance & fantasy. This is mostly because the winners of the earlier Goodreads Awards for romance were Colleen Hoover… For several consecutive years… And she’s an author that I have no interest in reading (anymore). Though it turns out some authors really do dominate these awards… 🫣

But on that note, let’s see what was popular and if I’ve read any of these winners! 😂

📚 = TBR
📖 = Read

Romance Winners (2022 – 2018)

Book Lovers 📚
People We Meet on Vacation 📚
From Blood and Ash 📖 my review
Red, White & Royal Blue
📖 my review
The Kiss Quotient
📖

Fantasy Winners (2022 – 2018)

House of Sky and Breath 📚
A Court of Silver Flames 📚
House of Earth and Blood 📚
Ninth Blood 📚
Circe 📖 my review

That’s it for the genre post this week! Have you read any of these books or are they also still on your TBR? Do you often read award-winning books such as the Goodreads Award winners?

  1. I’m not surprised by all the SJM at all. lol. She gets so much hype and is pretty much always guaranteed a nomination in the Goodreads Choice awards whenever she releases a book. It’s honestly a bit annoying. I get that people really like her stuff, but other people exist, too.

  2. Great list! I’ve read both the Emily Henry’s and enjoyed them quite a bit but I haven’t read anything else. Ninth House is on my “maybe one day perhaps” TBR 😅 I hope you enjoy all of these! 💚

  3. I read all of them, and also actually enjoyed them all! Emily Henry is one of my favorites though, I hope you’ll love her books! Also so much love for Ninth House and Circe ❤

  4. I recently read Circe (5 years later than everybody else!) and really enjoyed it. It’s definitely one that got the vote for every aspect of the book rather than author popularity, which is clearly now the case with SJMaas, so much so it’s rather ridiculous.

  5. From the romance novels you’ve listed, I’ve only read Book Lovers. As for SJM being the winner so many times does not surprise me at all. It seems like everyone has read her books (except me!)

  6. I loved to see you looking at the Fantasy and Romance Goodreads winners! I love Emily Henry and Red, White & Royal Blue 🥰 In Fantasy Sarah J. Maas usually ends up winning 🙈 I like her Crescent City and ACOTAR series, but I do think other authors should be winning as well!
