As I’m in a romance mood, it seems fitting that I finally get around to doing The Romance Reader Book Tag that I’ve been keen to do ever since I saw it on Kerri’s blog more than a year ago (omg, what is time 😂)!
After a bit of sleuthing, I’ve found that this tag was originally created by Romance Queen of Booktube and The Bookish Knitter.
And on that note, let’s get cracking on these questions!

What age did you start reading romance novels?
This is a good question although admittedly, I’m not really sure about the answer? 😂 I don’t think I really read romances when I was younger (unless you count Sweet Valley books like the original poster said). But my foray into romance really kicked off when I was around 22 and I discovered the queen, Nora Roberts. But I didn’t explore much of the genre aside from her books until my late 20s and discovered the book community + more romance lovers.
If you could pick one hero to meet from your favourite romance novels, who would it be and why?

This is such a tough one to answer but two names immediately popped into my head so I’m going to name them both: Rake from Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake and Hart from The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy. I loved both their personalities and how they overcame their trials. I loved how they treated their loves and family and friends. And honestly, I just want to give both of them massive hugs!! 😂

Who are your favourite romance authors and why?
Oh my goodness, how much time do we have cos I’ve got a few! 😂 I love these authors for how their stories make me feel—their characters feel so personable, their situations relatable, their romances so swoony, the humour is also fantastic, and I just feel like I know these characters by the end. These authors know how to get me invested! To name a few:

- Kate Canterbary
- Chloe Liese
- Talia Hibbert
- Helen Hoang
- KJ Charles
What is your favourite romance novel to re-read?

I don’t re-read often but two classics that I come back to often are both Jane Austen:
Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion.

What book would you recommend to a non-romance reader?
I think it would really depend on what type of romance they’re looking for and there are so many to choose from, including the different tropes to explore! Here are a few from different sub-genres that I think I would recommend to romance newbies:

Which is your favourite: contemporary, suspense, or historical and why?
It definitely comes down to contemporary or historical but I think it might be more contemporary because I read those more often. I have a ton of historical romances on my TBR though and I just haven’t got around to reading them yet but I have a feeling that when I finally do, I’ll love them! 😍
And that’s it for this romance reader’s book tag, friends! I’m tagging a few friends who enjoy their romance on here but even if you’re not tagged, feel free to grab the tag for yourself! 😍

Are you a romance reader? Would you consider yourself a long-time romance reader or a newbie to the genre? What are some of your favourite books? What would you recommend to a romance newbie?

What a fun tag! I can’t remember when I first started reading romance either. And I need to read more Kate Canterbary. Thanks for the tag!!

I actually struggled a little more than I thought I would to find the best answers (for me, lol). But also no pressure to do the tag if you’re not up for it! I just knew you read a lot of romances so I thought you might enjoy it but again, no pressure at all. 😊

Oh I’m going to do it it’s just going to be hard for me because I am so indecisive 😂

Great tag Dini – I think I started reading historical romance in high school because my older cousin would leave her historical romances lying around lol. But I was into Sweet Valley High and this other teen book series called Sweet Dreams (again because my older cousin left them around the house) in my pre-teen years!

You guys are so good. I keep reading these and trying to think of answers, but I struggle. Yes to Rake. He was amazing, and I adored him. That question, what books would you recommend to a non-romance reader. It’s a tough one too. I read all but two of your recs, and they were great.

Ooh, I struggled quite a bit with the non-romance reader recs. I was like WHAT WOULD I RECOMMEND?! It’s so tough and it definitely depends on what the person is also looking for, hence why I gave *very many suggestions* lol! 😂 Also, no pressure at all to do this tag!

Thanks for the tag, Dini! I was a big Sweet Valley High reader when I was younger too. lol And I would LOVE to meet Hart and give him a big hug.

I think if the Sweet Valley books count as romance I definitely started early. But I’m not sure if I’d necessarily count it cos the romance was a bit part of their stories but there was so much other drama to them as well 😂
