#WWWWednesday: 2 August 2023

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve managed to finish three books.

A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2) by V.E. Schwab ★★★★☆
Although this second book felt a little bit like a filler, I loved getting to know the characters, learning more about this world, and seeing more magic being used in very cool ways. The Essen Tach games were fantastic! That said, I wished the main plot got a little bit more focus… Still loved it though! 😍

An English Bride in Scotland (Highland Brides #1) by Lynsay Sands ★★★☆☆
I can’t give this book more than 3 stars and even that’s pushing it but I knew it would be a ridiculous time from the get-go and so I wasn’t disappointed. I saw b.andherbooks read this on Twitter and I was shocked by (literally) awful(ly) entertaining it sounded. As she said, the ratio of orgasms and concussions was equal, lol. 😂

To Marry a Scottish Laird (Highland Brides #2) by Lynsay Sands ★★½
Now, although these books don’t take themselves too seriously, I can’t in good conscience give this more than 2.5 stars. It was awful but also oddly entertaining. For close to 60% not much other than travelling and lots of sexy times in bushes, waterfalls and open spaces occurs; but then the plot gets all kinds of ridiculous and I mean, it was so weirdly entertaining but also, not exactly my cuppa? This book doesn’t really make sense so it tracks that my thoughts on it don’t either, lol! 🤣

  • Rival Radio62% → Despite enjoying this while reading, I haven’t gone back to it yet cos my mood swiftly changed!
  • A Conjuring of Light30% → It’s the final book in my buddy read with Becky and wow, it’s one helluva ride so far—in the best way! There’s so much happening, things are so tense and I love Schwab’s writing so much.
  • Amari and the Night Brothers47% → I’m buddy reading this with Chris before moving to the next book and I’m loving this re-read. This book is just the perfect MG fantasy and I love so much about it! 💜

I have absolutely no clue because of how moody my mood has been lately. I’ve had my eye on a few titles but it could really be anything! 😂

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

  1. I really need to jump on this Darker Shades of Magic hype train… And every time I see Something More on your lists, I get more interested in reading it. Ughhhh, I JUST whittled my TBR down too. 😅 Not your fault though! Great list!

    • This is my first time re-reading the Shades of Magic series since I read it for the first time like 5 years ago or something and I’m glad I’m still enjoying it so much ☺️ Haha, the more time you spend in the book community the more you will add books to your TBR so whittling it down every now and again is a good idea! 😂
