#WWWWednesday: 26 July 2023

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve managed to finish 2 books.

Bohemian by Kathryn Nolan ★★★☆☆
While this wasn’t bad, it didn’t end up grabbing me the way I hoped it would. The story was okay but felt like it dragged on too long because nothing really happens and the character progression was slow. These two had chemistry, and I enjoyed the “quiet bookish MMC” and the “secretly bookish world-famous model” but there wasn’t initially much depth to their connection, which made it feel too insta for my liking. I also admittedly felt pretty bored towards the middle and skimmed a bit!

Academy Arcanist (Astra Academy #1) by Shami Stovall ★★★★☆
I really enjoyed this YA fantasy. The MC might not have been my favourite but the world-building was great and the animal companions were fantastic! CHECK OUT MY REVIEW

  • A Gathering of Shadows82% → I’m almost done and absolutely loving it! This book sees so much more magic, action, and character development. I can’t wait to dive into the final book.
  • Rival Radio62% → Wasn’t sure if I was going to keep reading this author but I’m glad that I didn’t give up because I’m really enjoying this! The tension, the hate-lust, the opposites attract work rivals romance energy is just *chefs kiss*—Theo and Daria are! 🔥💜

I have absolutely no clue because of how moody my mood has been lately. I’ve had my eye on a few titles but it could really be anything! 😂

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

  1. I’ve been wanting to dip my toes into the YA world and Academy Arcanist and Something More look promising! Great list!

I hope you enjoy you continue to enjoy your current reads and have a great rest of your week! 💚

    • Ooh, there are so many good ones in the YA world. Academy Arcanist defo could be a good starting point for fantasy. Have you read any of V.E. Schwab’s YA? I’m re-reading her Darker Shades of Magic series now and now that I’m reading it again I do feel it’s little more on the “NA” side of YA but perhaps a good starting point for slowly dipping toes in. But again, lots of awesome YA out there 😃 I hope you find something that you enjoy! Have a great week too and happy reading! 🌻

    • I think I do this mostly when I find romances that start off well and I’m immediately pulled in but yet the payoff isn’t what I expect or want, but I see there’s potential to be something I love. Like, I’m chasing that *almost there* factor 😂 and sometimes I’m disappointed (like how I ended up feeling with Melanie Harlow’s books) but sometimes, like with Rival Radio, it seems to be paying off!

    • The first book of hers I read was Strictly Professional which I thought was cute if not totally different from what I expected. But by the end, it didn’t fully wow me the way I thought it would at the start. I’d seen Bohemian mentioned on romance booktwt a bit earlier this year (I think) which I only realised when I picked it up, lol. If you do check her out, I hope you enjoy the books! 🙂

    • Ooh, new covers? 👀 I didn’t realise that there were new covers! I’m off to check out what they look like, lol. I hope you love the series! I’m a big fan of Schwab’s writing—she writes stories that are so easy to read and sink into. 😍
