#WWWWednesday: 19 July 2023

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I’ve been reading a little bit but I’ve mostly powered through books (mostly romances) trying to find one that lights any kind of spark for me. So far, I haven’t really found anything and I’m struggling to connect (this definitely has to do with my mood/headspace). I’m going to keep trying though! 🤞🏽 Of the books I’ve read, I’ve only reviewed one for a tour and only have plans to write a full-length review for one other book. I might just do mini-reviews for the rest but let’s see if I even get around to doing that! 😂

But anyway, here are the last five books I’ve finished:

The Third Daughter by Adrienne Tooley ★★★☆☆
This was darker than I expected but it was an interesting start to a new series! CHECK OUT MY REVIEW

Strictly Professional by Kathryn Nolan ★★★☆☆
I saw a romance reader I follow on Twitter talk about this although now I can’t even remember who it was. 🤔 I think the characters, chemistry and romance (albeit being pretty insta lust/love) as written well but it also felt kinda too long at times.

Grim and Bear It (Stay a Spell #6) by Juliette Cross ★★½ (maybe?)
This… was the biggest disappointment to me! I love this series so much but in this book, I didn’t feel the chemistry, the banter, and everything that made the previous books my favourites. A total bummer!

Office Hours (Curriculum Vitae #1) by Katrina Jackson ★★★★☆
This was a great surprise! It was more serious than I expected and the depth of detail about being a professor and getting tenure made sense when I realised the author is one. Overall, this was funny, sexy, and smart and I really enjoyed it!

The Rules and Regulations for Mediating Magic (The Rules #1) by F.T. Lukens ★★★★½
I first saw Chris praising this book on his blog and I immediately went out to get it. I didn’t end. up reading it until now but I get why he loved it so much. It’s a little “teenage angsty” but so much fun and the cast of characters was fantastic! I can’t wait to read more. 😍

  • A Gathering of Shadows → 63% → I’m continuing with the buddy read for this series. The last time I read these books was over 5 years ago and I fell hard for this series. Thankfully, I’m still loving the books!
  • Bohemian → 80% → I’m close to finishing this but it’s feeling pretty mid? I’m not hating it but I’m a little bored and not vibing much with the FMC. I thought she would grow on me and she has a bit but I still can’t really read her, lol.
  • Academy Arcanist → 22% → I’m reading this for a blog tour and despite the MC being a little… irritating, I am enjoying the world and magic a lot! I can’t wait to see what happens. If anything happens to my favourite cinnamon roll though, I’m really gonna scream!

I have absolutely no clue because of how moody my mood has been lately. I’ve had my eye on a few titles but it could really be anything! 😂

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

  1. I’m so glad you enjoyed RULES AND REGULATIONS!! Most of Lukens’ stuff is pretty angsty, but it’s also usually super sweet with good humor, too. The sequel to this one wasn’t as good as the first book, but it was still enjoyable.

I hated the main character in ACADEMY ARCANIST in the beginning. He was a horrible little shit. Lol. He gets mostly tolerable by the end. I enjoyed the book a lot once it got to the school, though. The magical creatures were so great, especially Twain. I really, really want one. 🙂

    • LMAO I’m glad that I’m not the only who thinks Gray is a horrible little shit cos OML, this boy is irritating me big time! I’m trying not to let it affect how I feel about the book but I really wish that the author had also chosen another character in addition to Gray who could balance out the feelings of irritation. I’m also trying to be optimistic in thinking that she’s written him to be this way so that you can really see his growth throughout the book/series? 🤞🏽😂 Twain is adorable, I’m thoroughly enjoying his POV!
Also, while Rules & Regulations was teenage angsty, I think it was bearable because Bridger was such a likeable character for the most part and there were many moments of relatability, growth and learning. Glad to know the second book was still enjoyable even if not as good as the first. I’m keen to see what other misadventures this motley crew get up to, lol.

  2. Hello my dear! I’m popping in today. ❤ I really just hate that I'm a mood reader sometimes and totally get what is going on. I hope that you find something amazing soon. I really want to read the second Amari at some point!! I hope you have a lovely week. ❤

    • I just finished the book last night and I do think he does show a bit of growth but still… I find his irritation and embarrassment over the smallest and actually sweetest things was quite frustrating 😂 BUT I’m guessing he’ll grow a lot more throughout the series (at least I’d hope so) and I’m looking forward to that. I still really enjoyed the book!
