#WWWWednesday: 08 September 2021

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve managed to finish five books, though sadly only one was an ARC!

Dark and Shallow Lies by Ginny Myers Sain ★★★☆☆
This was another entertaining and fast addition to the Xivery Mates series. Lemora might be my favourite alien planet so far because the city was a giant melting pot of alien races and cultures, and it felt so vibrant and alive! Everyone was extremely friendly, helpful and accepting of others and it just served pleasant and happy vibes that I was totally here for. Raingar and Essmira were great but I especially loved Essmira because Stephens does a great job writing smart and headstrong heroines! Read my full review.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder #1) by Holly Jackson ★★★★☆
I’m gonna be honest, I read this for the smut and it definitely delivered! This is an age-gap romance, which is not something that I normally ever read but I wasn’t bothered by it in this story. There’s not much in the way of character development or a strong plot, and their relationship to each other is already an established thing, but I liked both the Duke and Victoria. I thought they were both interesting characters and that the author handled the emotional and moral struggle (especially on his part) well! Obviously, I liked the steamy bits and it did get quite steamy pretty quickly. The Duke ticked that dirty-talking hero box and so if that (and historical romance) is your thing, I would recommend checking this out (especially if you have KU)! RTC.

Treachery’s Devotion (Masters’ Admiralty #1) by Mari Carr & Lila Dubois ★★★☆☆
I think this might be my first menage romance and I enjoyed it! This was a fun combination of romance and suspense but I was definitely more sold on the suspense in book one than I was on the romance. While I liked our mains: Tristan, Sophia and James (my fave!), their romance felt a little forced and abrupt. But I was intrigued enough by the mystery and the Masters’ Admiralty secret society to continue on! That said, if you don’t like blood/gore, this might not be for you! RTC.

Loyalty’s Betrayal (Masters’ Admiralty #2) by Mari Carr & Lila Dubois ★★★½
This is the book that made me decide to continue with the series. I really liked Matteo, Cecilia and Dominic—their chemistry was hot and they were a fun, albeit slightly antagonistic, trinity. I’m still really loving the mystery aspect and we’re introduced to The Librarians, who’re tasked with the intellectual side of finding the killer and whom I love, and can’t wait to read more about them! RTC.

Pleasure’s Fury (Masters’ Admiralty #3) by Mari Carr & Lila Dubois ★★★★☆
I knew I was going to enjoy this one and OML, Antonio was everything! 😍 As one of Rome’s top assassins, can probably kill you before you say a peep, but the way he takes such gentle care of Karl and Leila as they heal really had me swooning! I loved seeing them grow closer and form an unshakeable bond, plus their chemistry was fire! 🔥 This was super action packed, but I’m getting a little weary of how the baddies keep thwarting the supposed “super smart and battle read” Knights and Security Officers of this society 🤔 I’m invested now though so I’m definitely reading on cos I need to know the who, what and why! RTC.

I’m 45% into She Who Became the Sun. I started this last week but put it aside to focus on a blog tour read but now I have yet to pick it back up. It’s not that I’m not enjoying it but it takes a lot of my concentration and my brain has been too foggy to focus properly. Hoping to finish it this week though!

I’m 35% done with the fourth book in my menage binge: Honor’s Revenge and it’s taking a bit of a different turn as one of our librarians (Hugo ❤) is making his way to America with Lancelot Knight. However, there’s a third party who’s unexpected and I’m curious to see how this game plays out. This is gonna be a fast one!

I’ve got a few blog tours coming up but hopefully I’ll also find myself tucking into some more ARCs soon!

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍

    • I… Still haven’t picked it back up yet 🙈 If I’m honest, the mood kinda got lost. BUT I plan to finish it before the end of the month so there’s still time! I just need to sit down with it and give it the proper attention it deserves!

    • Hope you enjoy it, Julie! I wasn’t sure if I was gonna read Garber’s new book since I still haven’t finished the Caraval series (welp, lol) but I’m curious now cos I’ve been seeing really good things about it and the covers are GORGEOUS!

  1. Funny to see the Mari Carr book because because before this week I don’t think I’d ever heard of her. A few days ago I came across her Wild Irish series which I added to my TBR. And now here she is again! I think the universe is telling me to give her a try. 🙂

    • I honestly don’t even know how I came across Mari Carr’s book but I did start with one of her Wild Irish books and I enjoyed it enough that I ended up reading two more… And then I came across this deal for her menage romances and I swooped in 😂 Keen to know what you think of her books! Happy reading 🙂
