#WWWWednesday: 03 March

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve finished five books. Three of these five reads left me with some pretty mixed feelings but it wasn’t an awful week of reading!

Aether Ones by Wendi Coffman-Porter ★★☆☆
The first book that left me with mixed feelings last week. This was a pretty interesting sci-fi read that had one of the most kick ass heroines I’ve read about in a while! Leilani is someone you don’t want to mess with, especially when she technically has the “UN of space” on her side as she does whatever it takes to get the job done! 😉 That said, the world building and time jumps often had me re-reading and getting confused. Check out my blog tour review!

The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi ★★★½
This was an incredible and heartbreaking story about the complexities of love, sexual and gender identity, and self-acceptance in a society that doesn’t accept or acknowledge your existence. It’s about loss, grief, fear and secrets. It’s a stunningly written book that I would highly recommend! Check out my review!

See Me After Class by Meghan Quinn ★★½
I had seriously mixed feelings about this. I loved the banter between friends and the siblings, the pranks were funny, the chemistry was intense and I think this was probably the steamiest Quinn book I’ve read? It was seriously fire! 🥵 That said, Arlo was a bit of a tough cookie to like especially when at the start he was a next-level douche nozzle/asshole and he continued to be a real ‘intellectual snob’ for a good chunk of the book. I’m quite the sucker for grand gestures though and this one really got me good (and no doubt fans of Austen would love it!). RTC.

Aurora Rising (Aurora Cycle #1) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff ★★★★★
This was another re-read + buddy read with Sammie (who’s still finishing up the book) but I couldn’t resist finishing it. I listened along with the audiobook for the first time and it was great–the voice actors did a great job and seriously, give me all the full-cast productions cos I’m a sucker for them. Would unsurprisingly 10/10 recommend! 😉 Check out my (original-first read) review!

Mr Right Next Door by Kathryn Freeman ★★★☆☆
Another romcom that definitely had it’s cute and sweet moments–those non-dates and leaving messages at their windows for each other 😍–but it was one that ultimately left me with mixed feeling because of the heroine. When I think of Mia, Katy Perry’s Hot/Cold song starts playing on a loop cos this girl could not make up her mind! She was also quite harshly judgemental towards Luke and other women who made an effort to look nice? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Check out my blog tour review!

I’m about 70% of the way done with Happy Singles Day and I’ve been enjoying it so far. It’s a fairly light-hearted romance, and the hero really kicked off on the wrong douche-y foot although he has gotten better. While its been a fun/fast read, it’s nothing special and I don’t think it’ll be very memorable. I’ve also picked up The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet on a whim earlier this week and it’s still very early days but I really want to spend time reading it, which I’ll do after I finish HSD tonight!

I’ve got quite a few books that I’m really looking forward to reading in the coming week! My mood has been a bit erratic lately although it’s still mostly on the romance and sci-fi track, so unsurprisingly these are the books I’m keen to get to. I’m especially excited to read Lost in the Never Woods for the blog tour mid-month! Can’ wait 😍

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍

  1. 5?! Oh now you’re just really putting me to shame, I’ve finished one since last week – need to up my reading game at the moment, aha. I look forward to hearing what you think of A Long Way… – that book has been on my TBR pile for probably longer than I should admit to.

    • I ended up putting it to the side while I focus on ARCs and other reads. I think I need to be in the right headspace for it cos it ended up being a bit slower to start with than I expected. I have been enjoying it though–I’m really digging the characters 😃 But the science jargon is kinda going over my head 🙈 Haha

      • Makes total sense because you will just hate it or DNF it otherwise. I am trying to get through ARC’s too but my library ebook holds keep coming up at the same time! I totally forget to freeze them. haha.

    • I ended up putting that to the side for a little bit while I focus on some ARCs and buddy reads! I was enjoying it but it was also a lot slower in pace than I expected. Also, the scientific stuff is kinda going over my head a bit and I think I have to be in the right headspace for it 🙈 I know *so* many people love it though so I’m keen to get back to it!

  3. Great reading week, Dini! OMG, can’t wait to know what you thought of The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet. I really want to read Becky Chambers soon. I’m very curious about Lost in the Never Woods too.
