So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: Books for My Younger Self (these could be books you wish you had read as a child, books younger you could have really learned something from, books that meshed with your hobbies/interests, books that could have helped you go through events/changes in your life, etc.)
Over the last couple of days I’ve been thinking a lot about the middle grade fantasies that I’ve read and that I still really want to read, and these thoughts fit so well with this week’s prompt, so I was quite excited to dive right in. Then I realised that I actually have more MG reads on my TBR than ones I’ve read so this week I’ve split the post into read and unread books, but they’re all books that I think my younger middle-school self would’ve very much enjoyed reading!

READ
Nevermoor Series
The Ship of Shadows
Malamander
Wonder
The Tea Dragon Society
UNREAD
Other Words for Home
Race to the Sun
The Unadoptables
Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky
Wonderscape

What books would you recommend to your younger self?
Would any of these make it onto your recommendation list?

I think I would have Nevermore as a preteen, too.
Thanks for stopping by earlier.

The whole Rick Riordan Presents imprint would have been great for me when I was a kid/teenager, but sadly came a little too late for me! I might still read some of them now, but I know I would have loved them more if they’d been around at the same time as Percy Jackson.

Same here. I really wish I had been part of the RR imprint years (and even PJ years) but I’m happy that I can still enjoy them now — although I’ve yet to pick up one of the books! Haha they’re still sitting on TBR mountain 😅

I unfortunately didn’t discover my love of reading until after my childhood. I’m curious now how I would have felt if I had read Nevermoor back then. Great list!!

I think this is the one book I wouldn’t have hesitated to love when I was younger because how I feel reading it now reminds me of how I felt reading Harry Potter as a kid! Lol

The Tea Dragon Society was a lovely read. I got it from my OwlCrate and enjoyed it with my daughter. I think this is an interesting list because I haven’t heard of some of these books. I’m off to learn more!
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday post.

My daughter read Wonder and loved it a year or so ago. It really is a great book for a middle grade reader. Or anyone, really. Nice list!

Yes, I definitely agree! So glad to hear she enjoyed it 🙂 I read it a few years ago as well but oh, it was so touching. Broke my heart but also filled me with such hopeful warmth! ❤️

There are so many wonderful middle grade reads out there now. When I browse the MG shelves at my bookstore I could get lost…

I can’t believe I still haven’t read Wonder. I even own it. I love how you went with a Middle Grade theme. I overlook MG so often, but when I pick one up, I always enjoy it. ❤

I agree with all of these that I’ve read! And the ones I haven’t, I still need to read. Like The Tea Dragon Society, for sure, and I’ll hopefully be picking up Race to the Sun soon, and also Malamander. I’m behind with my MG reads is really what I’m saying here, but these all look fantastic, and I think younger me would’ve liked them, too. xD
