My guilt has kicked in and told me that I can’t keep avoiding another culling of my ridiculous TBR forever, so here I am. Back again with a list of books from my Goodreads TBR that is now a whopping 1,088 books (don’t judge me, I added a lot more books to my TBR since last week)! I thought I’d make it clear again that just because it’s on my Goodreads TBR doesn’t actually mean I own copies of the book (that’d be way ridiculous even for me)! Let’s see what we can get rid of today, eh?
Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books we’ve saved on there. Here’s how it works:
- Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go
Verdict: Keep
A Gentleman in Moscow: Been seeing great reviews for this lately. Very intrigued!
Lilac Girls: I’m a sucker for WWII historical fiction and this one sounds intense but good.
Underground Airlines: Holy that synopsis though 😱 This sounds so thrilling!
The Vegetarian: I WILL READ THIS BOOK, DAMNIT!
Prince of Thorns: I’ve heard amazing things about Lawrence’s fantasies! I’ve had this one for ages.
Red Rising: I really need to read this book soon. Everyone seems to love i!
Human Acts: Not sure if I’m ready to be shook but… I’m gonna keep this on here!

Verdict: BYE-BYE-BYE!
The Wonder: Sounds interesting but not enough to stay on my list?
Morning Star: Only removing this because I haven’t even read Red Rising yet! 🤣
Crosstalk: I still like the idea of this book but I honestly don’t know when if ever I’d actually pick it up.
The Circle: Feeling madly lukewarm about this and I’m hesitating to say buh-bye to it!
Gods and Generals: Um… I don’t even know how or why this is on my TBR? Really doesn’t sound like my jam!
Uglies: I’ve heard great things about this book but it just doesn’t entice me anymore. Sounds too angsty!
Free to Fall: Can’t decide about this one so I’m going to say bye coz I don’t know when I’d read it!
The Lonely Hearts Hotel: Actually thought I had already removed this from my list… LOL!

This week I managed to wave off 8/15 books… Not my best but not too bad as well! Reckon I really need to start kicking off more than 15 per post if I’m ever going to bring this mad TBR down 😂 This brings my Goodreads TBR to: 1,080 books! 😅

Lilac Girls is good, but some parts were a little slow for me. If you like WWII historical fiction, you will most likely love it.

I have Red Rising on my TBR too, but I’m on the fence about it. Read some stuff that may annoy me regarding the main character so I might try to pick it up from the library, still unsure about it.
8/15 is good, more than 50%, it’s progress! ❤️

Uh oh… Annoying character traits really bug me too but I haven’t heard anything… I’m going to give the audiobook a try since I’ve heard pretty good things about it. Hope you enjoy it if you decide to pick it up ❤

My husband enjoyed the Red Rising series but I never felt led to pick it up. My mom loaned me Lilac Girls but I still haven’t read it.

I’ve heard so much about the series but for some reason I’ve been hesitating coz I’m not sure if it’ll be for me. I’m willing to give it a proper go though. I heard the audiobook is great! I hope you enjoy Lilac Girls whenever you read it 🙂 Did your mum enjoy it?

My mom did enjoy it. But I feel like it’s one of those books that I need to be in the right mood for. 🙂

My Goodreads was recently at 1000 and I did a cull, getting it down to 800. Which still seems ridiculous. Ha! I actually had a copy of Red Rising, but I got rid of it. With my physical books, I read the first few pages or first chapter and if I didn’t want to keep reading, I got rid of it. I have read Lilac Girls, and like someone else said, it had its slow parts, but overall I enjoyed it! I loved A Gentleman in Moscow. And I read Circle and The Uglies series years ago, but I don’t remember much about either of them. So you probably made the right choice to get rid of them. 🙂

Wowow, that’s absolute GOALS, Dedra! Hahaha I think I’d be happy just getting it down to 900, as long as it’s under the 1k number?! 🤣I have a copy of Red Rising but I think I’ll be checking out the audiobook (might follow along with the book). I’ve heard a lot of good things about Gentleman in Moscow although I’ve also heard it’s a bit slower paced. But I am a total sucker for historical fic 😀

Hope the door doesn’t slap you too hard in the back Lonely Hearts Hotel! I know we’ve talked about that book before but let me reiterate what a train wreck it is plus the unnecessary sexual violence… just no. Good riddance.

My TBR is still well over 3,000 books. And when I started my ‘Tackling the TBR’, I was near 5,000. You’re doing great!

Wow! You’ve gone down to 3k from 5k when you started tackling the TBR? That’s awesome and definite goals! Lol I’m hoping to be able to cut down on as much 😂

I loved A Gentleman in Moscow for sure. Red Rising fell a little flat on character connection with me (I loved the first part but the rest fell flat) and I haven’t picked up the second book yet. However, it’s been quite a while since I’ve read Red Rising and I still remember so many details, so I’ll probably move on to book 2 at some point.

Oh no, that’s the second time I’ve heard something about the red rising characters… I’m hoping that listening on audio will make a difference for me! 🤞🏽Hopefully I’ll end up enjoying it! And hope you enjoy the rest of the series if you pick it up 🙂
