Down the TBR Hole – 13

My guilt has kicked in and told me that I can’t keep avoiding another culling of my ridiculous TBR forever, so here I am. Back again with a list of books from my Goodreads TBR that is now a whopping 1,073 books! I thought I’d make it clear again that just because it’s on my Goodreads TBR doesn’t actually mean I own copies of the book (that’d be way ridiculous even for me)! Let’s see what we can get rid of today, eh?

Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books we’ve saved on there. Here’s how it works:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go

Verdict: Keep

Storm Dancer: It’s Kristoff! I can’t say bye to it… Although I have heard crazy mixed reviews about it…
Sea of Shadows: The synopsis makes it sounds so good? Again, tons of mixed reviews but… This blurb!
The Surgeon: Again, this blurb jus sounds so good? I’m a sucker for a good thriller too!
In the Woods: Every time I read this blurb I want to immediately start reading it. Sounds so intense!
Stranger in A Strange Land: I’ve been wanting to read this for ages. I might even have two copies of it…
The Virgin Suicides: Very curious since the movie… But I also don’t know if I’m 100% sure I want to read it?
Anansi Boys: It’s Gaiman…? But have been wanting to read this ever since American Gods!

Verdict: BYE-BYE-BYE!

Finding Jake: It does sound interesting but not feeling very compelled to pick it up anytime soon.
Don’t You Cry: Again, this sounds really interesting, I just don’t know if it’s for me right now…
Sun Storm: I don’t always get on with Scandinavian authors and this just isn’t calling out to me!
The Good Girl: I actually have this book but have never been able to get into it… so I think I’ma say bye!
Friendship: This just doesn’t sound like my jam? Don’t know why I’ve added it tbh lol
The Burning Page: Only coz I haven’t even read book two yet and thought book one was ok?
King’s Cage: Loved book one, couldn’t get through book two, so I’m saying bye to book three!
City of Savages: Doesn’t really sound like my jam. Not compelling me to read it!

This week I managed to wave off 8/15 books… Not bad, right? I mean… It’s been a while since I’ve done this! That brings my GR TBR down to a solid: 1,065. Woo! LMAO okay, bye… 😂

  1. It’s funny you mentioned guilt. I feel guilty every time I delete some from my TBR. I always end up regretting it. Don’t have a clue why. But, I just gave up. LOL! I think my Goodreads TBR is only in the hundreds, though. I think….

    • I do feel guilty about removing books sometimes especially when they’re on my actual TBR too but I know if I keep them on that list they might never go off it otherwise! It’s definitely hard though and that’s why there’s often really long intervals between when I do this post 😂 Haha having a TBR in the hundreds is totally good though — I mean, I’m just trying to get to a good number below 1K 🤣

  2. I have 773 books on my gr TBR (just checked out of curiosity) and so many more floating around my brain and no way am I deleting any of them 😂😂😂 I’ve read Finding Jake btw. It’s okay but ultimately lacked a little gravitas for the themes of the story. And I tried to read The Virgin Suicides a bunch of years ago and I DNFd it. Not even sorry! It just has a strange way of looking at girls with a male gaze and I wasn’t here for it. As for Aveyard, read the first book in that series and was like yeah I’m done now 😂😂😂

    • 773 is not bad! I mean it’s below 1K which I frankly find ridiculous because I can’t even remember half the books that I add or that I’ve even added them in the first place 🤣 I actually read your review for Finding Jake and I was like yep, OK. Off it goes! Also saw your review for Virgin Suicides but I decided to keep it on for a little while. It might go off eventually (might just re-watch the movie to decide) and considering the movie is as … strange as it is, I’m not surprised the book is even more so?! 😅

  3. I’ve also had the debate about deleting Stormdancer off my TBR but then… it’s Kristoff so I decided to keep it. My first attempt at reading the book didn’t go as planned so hopefully the second attempt is better 😀

  4. I recently cut my Goodreads tbr from 1000 to 850, which felt good, but yeah, it’s still ridiculous. About 200 are books I’ve marked as ‘interested’, so they make get removed eventually, as well. It’s a challenge every day, right?? 😉

    • That’s amazing and exactly what I aim to do! I’m really hoping to make good progress on cutting down my TBR and getting it to below 1k at least! I’m really glad this isn’t my actual TBR though coz if it was I’d totes be crying 🤣 Definitely a challenge every day! 😉

  5. Wow I’m so proud of you and a little inspired too, I don’t think I’ve ever edited by tbr whoops! Hey, you’ve got more space for some you might really enjoy! That’s great!! :’)

    • Thanks Tina 😀 Considering my GR TBR is currently over 1k books I hope that I don’t add too many more books to it. I’m hoping I can really cut it down by a lot this year! I don’t even remember adding some of these titles to my list 🤣
