Down the TBR Hole – 09

Oh, hello. Am I really back with another Down the TBR Hole post after several weeks of purposely ignoring it? Why yes, I am šŸ˜¬ It’s been a while, gentlefriends, but I’m back and since the last post where I ended with 1,005 books, I’m now starting with a whopping 1,022 books on my Goodreads TBR! Yeah, I kind of went on a mini add-spree yesterday… šŸ˜… But let’s see how many of the 10 books I’ll say bye-bye-bye to this week! I’m hoping it’s at least one?

Down the TBR Hole is a weekly book meme created by the wonderful Lia @ Lost in a Story that attempts to organize our ridiculously long Goodreads TBR list by choosing either to keep or eliminate the books weā€™ve saved on there. Here’s how it works:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youā€™re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopsesĀ of the books
  • Decide: keep itĀ or should it go

Verdict: Keep

Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders
Did I mention my fascination with serial killers?

In Cold Blood
See above comment. But seriously, this is one true crime classic I really want to read!

Columbine
I remember when this happened and how much it frightened me and how everyone wouldn’t stop talking about it. That was the first time I learned about how easy it was to get a gun in America.

The People in the Trees
I loved A Little Life so much and I’m keen to see whether I’ll love this one too. I also have the physical copy already.

Confessions of a Sociopath: A Life Spent Hiding in Plain Sight
I’ve had this one sitting on my shelf partially read for a really long time now… I started it but it’s on my ‘taking-a-break’ for now shelf because I struggle with NF. I will finish it though!

A Brief History of Seven Killings
I have several of Marlon James’ books on my shelf but his books really intimidate me… But I really want to read this!

The Lowland
I’ve wanted to read Lahiri’s books for a while now and I do have the physical copy of this so it’s staying!

Verdict: BYE-BYE-BYE!

The Monster of Florence
I’m interested but it’s not so high up on my true crime want-to-read list so off it goes! Might come back later though…

Whoever Fights Monsters: My Twenty Years Tracking Serial Killers for the FBI
This sounds hella interesting and up my alley of wanting to know more about serial killers’ minds but I think I’d rather watch Mind Hunter first… This might come back though!

The Luminaries
I don’t know if this will be my jam and since it’s a helluva tome, I’m saying bye for now!

Final tally: 3/10 books were removed which isn’t great but at least I managed to remove something from my TBR this week, right?! šŸ¤£

  1. I read the luminaries…. Oh Dini…. Spent a week with that book only for the limpest of endings… I remember finishing and being like THAT IS IT!!!! WHERE IS MY ENDING???? I would’ve thrown the book but it was sooooo heavy lmao šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

    • OH YIKES. I’m glad that I booted it off my list tbh. I mean, I heard a lot of mixed reviews but I just thought hmm… I don’t think this will be for me. And for an ending that’s unsatisfying? No thank ye! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

    • I’m really keen to read it! After months of scouring bookstores here for it (I didn’t want to order online even though that would’ve been much simpler šŸ™„ haha) I finally found it and now it’s sitting on my shelf for months… I hope to read it soon though!
