Leslie and I are planning a group read for Dungeon Crawler Carl starting in January 2026! Find more details on Leslie’s page or at the end of this post!
Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Time is just speeding by! Somehow, we’re already halfway through the first full week of October and I know I shouldn’t be but I’m shocked. 😅 It’s been another slow reading week and I’ve only managed to finish 2 books!

Strange Pictures by Uketsu ★★★★☆
This was one weird unique read and a fun buddy read with Charlotte! There’s not much that can be said without giving the story away, but I appreciated how the events in the four chapters intertwined and everything came full circle. I liked the use of the drawings and how they tied into the mysteries, although there were some deductions that were too convenient and required a fair bit of suspension of disbelief. The story took a direction I didn’t expect and there was something about the very sedate/mild writing style combined with gruesome descriptions that made it all the more unsettling. I’m not even sure how to really describe it! There were times I wondered if I was missing (emotional) context that got lost in translation, but I found this surprisingly entertaining and I’m keen to check out more by this author!
Whispers of the Deep (Deep Waters #1) by Emma Hamm ★★★★☆
I kicked off the spooky month with a monster romance and I loved it! This got pretty dark at times and although it took me longer than expected to finish due to some pacing issues, I really enjoyed it overall! I’m already reading the next book now. 🧜🏽♂️ I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a (very) slow-burn, enemies to lovers, mainly character driven monster romance set in a futuristic world where humans live in underwater cities.

My mood hasn’t gotten any easier to read lately and it doesn’t help that I’ve been feeling more mentally exhausted than usual these days. I do miss the days when I could read and retain so much more! 🫣

- Song of the Abyss ⇢ 7% ⇢ I started this the other day as my night time read and well, I haven’t gotten very far because I keep falling asleep. 🤭 Not because the book is boring though, I’m just exhausted! I’m curious to see how Hamm turns the FMC’s character around…
- The Tropic of Serpents ⇢ 18% ⇢ We’ve all caught up on the first part now and starting the second. I’m excited to see the mayhem Isabella and the crew will get up to! 😍
- Jade City ⇢ 32% ⇢ I fell a bit behind on this buddy read last week but I’ve caught up now and I don’t want to stop reading! Ugh, my “least favourite” part is coming up and it’s only least favourite because it absolutely GUTS ME and I have a feeling that even on my third re-read, this part will never get any easier to read. Help 😭 Gosh, I love this series so freaking much!
- A Man Called Ove ⇢ 40% ⇢ I haven’t made any progress on this yet as I want to binge it in one go. Let’s hope this weekend calls for it!
- Lady’s Knight ⇢ 6% ⇢ Again, another one with no progress just yet but I’m hoping to pick it up again soon (if my mood allows, lol).

I’m really going with my mood.

Join our group read for Dungeon Crawler Carl in January!
Even before we finished the seventh book in September, we already knew we wanted to do a bigger re-read of the series in the lead up to the eighth book coming out in 2026! We also figured this would be really fun reading in a bigger group, so that’s what we’re doing! We’ll start in January and read roughly 1 book per month to prepare for the release of the next book later in the year! We’re hosting it on instagram so leave a comment below or message me or Leslie on Instagram if you’d like to join.
GET EXCITED, CRAWLERS! 🧨

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

Just started Illegal Action by Stella Rimington.
In the last week I’ve read:
1 Guarding Cassie by Kaylea Cross. Crimson Point Security #5.
2 Her Alien Cyborgs by Susan Hayes. The Drift:Haven Colony
3 Secret Asset by Stella Rimington. Liz Carlyle #2.
4 Star Cruise Lucky Charm by Veronica Scott. From Pets in Space 10.
Up next should be the new KJ Charles. All of us Murderers.

Ooh, I’m still undecided about whether to read All of Us Murderers because of the more paranormal/ghostly aspect that Charles has mentioned being part of the storyline… But I’m very tempted because it looks like fun and I love what they write! 😍 I hope you enjoy it and the rest of your books too, Gill.
