#WWWWednesday: 27 August 2025

Leslie and I are planning three group reads in the coming months! Find more details on Leslie’s page or at the end of this post!

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

It’s been a shockingly packed reading week as I’ve spent probably more than half of it being sick (even now!) and unable to muster any energy except to read. It was a lot of mindless romances but none of the options I listed in my previous Wednesday post. 🤣 Still, it was exactly what I needed and since last week I’ve managed to finish 9 books.

Haven Ever After: Books 1 & 2 by Hazel Mack ★★★★☆ (avg)
I’ve heard about this monster romance from a few other bloggers but never really felt the pull to read them until recently. It took a while to get into (almost even DNF) but I powered through and I’m so glad I did! This is the definition of cosy paranormal romance ft. lots of steamy moments but wholesome relationships overall. Loving it so far!

The Guy for Me by Marzy Opal ★★★½
This was a sweet and steamy friends to lovers romance novella. I wish it was longer so the characters got the development they deserved but it was still good. I loved that not only is the FMC plus-sized, but so is the MMC, and I don’t think I’ve read that before!

Potions & Prejudice (Moonflower Witches #1) by Tee Harlowe ★★★½
This was a fun cosy romance fantasy that made for the perfect quick and easy read (and palate cleanser)! There are many P&P influences but it’s different enough you can’t really tell if you weren’t familiar with the original. Elspeth & Draven were trying at times but I wound up loving the tension, silliness, and the freaking adorable pocket dragon! 🥹 Edgar was SO CUTE!

Change on the Fly (Totally Pucked #1) by Maren Moore ★★☆☆☆
Not much to say other than this didn’t work for me at all. I felt zero connection/chemistry and I think Moore’s writing is so much stronger now compared to then and you can really tell!

To Be Yours Series by Rae Kennedy ★★★☆☆ (avg)
I’m not even sure how this came on my radar. Book 1 was super cringey and I didn’t really enjoy it but I’m glad that I was curious enough to pick up the next one because the writing got progressively better! It’s steamy and, as typical for NA romance, there’s a lot of angsty pining and unfortunately, lack of communication. That said, it was exactly what I needed and I ended up enjoying the series!

  • This Poison Heart69% ⇢ I’m loving this Owlcrate group read so much! I had to hit pause so that I didn’t zoom ahead and finish it way too early, but it’s compulsively readable. I love the plant magic, the relationship between Bri and her mums is absolutely the sweetest, and you gotta love a weird small town and all the mysteries it’s hiding. I can’t wait to find out what exactly is going on!
  • Partying with Pixies4% ⇢ I’m just diving into the third book in Mack’s series. It’s so much fun and I can’t wait to see Alo pull his head out of his gargoyle ass and to finally see Miriam! 🤣 Also, more Iggy is never a bad thing—that kid is so precocious!

A few buddy reads but it’s mostly where the mood takes me!

As I mentioned above, Leslie and I are planning group buddy reads in the upcoming months. If you’re interested in joining, you can reach out to either of us via comments or DM us on socials!

  • The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee — We’re planning a group read for the last three months of 2025. We’ll start in October and read one book per month through December. It’ll be a re-read for many but you’re welcome to join even if you haven’t read it yet and have been wanting to! 💚
  • Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman — Yes, you’re seeing that right. We’re currently reading DCC but we’re planning to start (what we hope will be) a larger group read in January 2026 to prepare for the release of of book 8 in June 2026! GET EXCITED! 🧨

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  2. If you’re not well, then you definitely don’t want anything that’s going to make you think too much so these all look like great choices. Sorry that you’ve been ill for so much of this week and hope that things improve really quickly.

  3. Omg nine books in a week? That’s incredible, well done. I’m so sorry to hear that you’re sick though. I really hope you feel better soon ❤️❤️ I haven’t heard of that Hazel Mack series but the covers have intrigued me. I’m glad pushing past your initial struggles with it paid off. And I’m intrigued by the P&P retelling too.

I’m glad you’re enjoying your latest Owlcrate buddy read, especially given how hit and miss they’ve been.

I hope you have a lovely week and once again get well soon 🥰

    • I know! It was totally unexpected to me as well—I didn’t realise how many books I’d read while being ill but well, I guess that’s really the only upside to having been sick, lol. The Hazel Mack series is really cute—it’s very sweet romance but also very steamy, and it has great found family (but also real family) vibes. Love the wholesome magical small town vibes too!

I’m keen to check out the second book in the P&P “retellings” cosy fantasy romance books but that’s only coming out later this year so I’ve got a bit to wait. It was fun though and I think if you enjoy a very loose retelling in a fantasy world, you might enjoy it too!

Hope you’re doing okay and had a great week, Charlotte!

      • I’m glad it at least gave you a good excuse to curl up and read then, although I still hope you’re feeling better now.

Aww that’s lovely to hear about the found family & family vibes and setting. Sounds like it has a nice blend of elements to it.

Yeah I didn’t think book one had been out overly long tbh, hopefully the sequel will be worth the wait though 🤞it does sound fun 😊

        Thank you 🥰
