Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

It felt like I read a lot more than 3 books since last week, but alas, my memory seems to just be playing tricks on me, lol. It wasn’t a bad reading week and I’m so glad that I finally knocked more books off my physical backlist!

Bourbon & Lies (The Bourbon Boys #1) by Victoria Wilder ★★★½
This has been on my radar for a while and I honestly didn’t go in with very many expectations, but I thought this was a pretty solid contemporary small town romance. It made me want to get to know bourbon as a drink and I really enjoyed the chemistry between Grant and Laney—it was cheeky, sexy AF, and surprisingly sweet. I’m always a sucker for strong family relationships in romances and I liked the Foxx family a lot!
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston ★★★★½
This was a buddy read with Leslie and I ate it up! It was the perfect book for a weekend reading binge and I could’ve easily read it in one sitting. The vibes of this were so reminiscent of the classic romcoms a la Serendipity, Sleepless in Seattle, Notting Hill and honestly, I was obsessed! I should’ve expected Poston to hit me hard in the feels and she did, lol. SO GOOD! I cried. I pined. I swooned. What more can I say?
The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver ★★★¾
I’m so glad that I can finally knock this off my backlist cos it’s been on there for ages! This was an extremely grief heavy read and while romance was central to the story, this was more about Lydia’s journey of rediscovery after losing the love of her life. It felt a bit cyclical after a while but I was really pleased with the ending and how Lydia grew throughout the story.

The Oleander Sword ⇢ 74% ⇢ I’m way ahead in my buddy read with Jess, so I’m going to put this down until she catches up. However, I’m loving and hating it at the same time. Okay, I’m not hating it at all, it’s got me so tense! So many things can go wrong! I’m seriously terrified! But also, I love so much about this and I just want to keep reading, lol. This is shaping up to be a fantastic sequel—probably my favourite so far this year?!

I’ve got a few buddy reads lined up but in between I’m just going with where the mood takes me!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

I love that art-style on Bourbon & Lies!

I’m currently reading Obsession in Death by JD Robb
In the last week I’ve read:
1 Alien Heir by Cara Bristol.
2 Thankless in Death by JD Robb
3 Something to Prove by Lane Hayes.
4 Taken in Death by JD Robb
5 Concealed in Death by JD Robb
6 Festive in Death by JD Robb
Next up should be Lion Hearts by Dan Jones, the final of the Essex Dogs trilogy. Gory, but gripping

Haha, yeah, I’m pretty sure I bought it around the time it came out as well. It’s been on my TBR for so long. I don’t know why I thought this weekend was the time to read it, but I picked it up after trying to slow myself down reading Seven Year Slip! 😂 I’m so proud of us for all the backlist books we’re reading and series we’re completing! 💜

I saw on Leslie’s page that you’d both loved the Ashley Poston book. Definitely going to have to try it sometime, especially with the Nottinghill comparison. The Oleander Sword certainly sounds intense. I hope you don’t have to wait too long to carry on. Glad you’re enjoying it so much.
I’m looking forward to our buddy reads 😊 and will watch out for your thoughts on the Bourbon series. Instagram convinced me to add that one to my TBR 😅

Honestly, it was just the vibes of the book that gave that made me think of classic romcoms. Leslie said she agreed but I haven’t seen others mentioned the same in their reviews, so maybe it’s just us. I hope you do enjoy it if you pick it up though! I can’t wait to do our buddy reads as well and I hope we both enjoy it. It’s such a hyped book that I’m a bit nervous but also, the fantasy/mystery combo just sounds so fantastic!
Ooh, I haven’t actually seen the Bourbon books mentioned by anyone anywhere. It just kept getting recommended to me on Kindle and I was enticed by those covers alone, haha! 😂

It’ll be interesting to see if I feel similarly or not then 🤔 and thank you. Yes I’m kind of nervous given the hype too but here’s hoping it’ll be a hit for us 🤞 I’m very intrigued by the genre combination too. I think I’ve seen that the world is interesting as well and I do love learning about fantasy settings.
Well I don’t blame you cover wise, they’re stunning 😍😂

Im so happy you’re enjoying The Oleander Sword, Dini. And I absolutely get what you mean about it being tense. I would love to say it eases of but… lol. I wasn’t sure whether I would like The Seven Year Slip, but I think I might just have to add it to my TBR now.

Thanks, Becky! I did enjoy the fast pace of Oleander Sword but there were still certain elements that just didn’t work for me overall, and I have a feeling those elements are only become more pronounced in the last book. Not sure how I feel about that, haha, but I am 100% invested in Bhumika and I’m looking forward to seeing how this trilogy ends 🙂 Also, I hope you enjoy The Seven Year Slip! Have you read any of Poston’s romances before?

Bhumika was one of my faves too, I loved her arc in the last book! I read The Dead Romantics and really enjoyed it, but haven’t picked up any of the others yet.

So glad to hear you enjoyed Slip. I loved that book! Poston does a good job with her magical touches, and you know I am always here for a good grief journey.
