#WWWWednesday: 2 July 2025

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I haven’t read very much over the past week and it didn’t help that I started a new game that I’m currently obsessed with! 🤭 Since last week I’ve only finished 2 books.

Embrace the Serpent by Sunya Mara ★★★☆☆
This started strong but ended pretty mid for me. I think it would’ve benefitted from being a duology at the very least because there was so much to explore! [CHECK OUT MY REVIEW]

The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook (Dungeon Crawler Carl #3) by Matt Dinniman ★★★★☆
I have to admit that I wasn’t overly fond of this particular floor of the dungeon. I don’t know—something about the subway system being the level was just not as appealing or entertaining as the previous levels (perhaps it was the cyclical nature of the floor)! Despite the longer build up to the mad action that I’ve come to expect and appreciate, I still enjoyed this a lot. Carl is such a great guy and I love the party he’s formed with Donut, Mongo, and a new member! 💜

  • The Bullet That Missed ⇢ 64% ⇢ I’m buddy reading this with Leslie but she’s finished the book overnight and I’m a bit behind schedule! I do love being with this group of murder obsessed oldies. So much love for them! 💜
  • The Spellshop ⇢ I was meant to start this buddy read with Charlotte yesterday but I got really worked up at the office and decompressed for too long by gaming. I’m starting it in bed tonight though and I’m looking forward to it. We’ve seen some mixed opinions about it but I hope we love it! 🥰

Aside from two buddy reads, I’m just going where the mood takes me. Here are some possibilities!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  1. The blurb for Embrace the Serpent sounded really cool, it is such a shame that it went down from there. At least you didn’t commit to a series.

I’ve only heard great things about Phantasma, so I’m curious!

Have a great reading week, Dini!❤️

  3. It’s a shame that both of last week’s books were a bit of a disappointment but I’m glad that you’re enjoying the Richard Osman. I have to say that Bogdan is rapidly becoming one of my favourite characters.

    • Honestly, with a series as long as Dungeon Crawler Carl, there’s bound to be at least one book that’s slightly less enjoyable than the others. I still liked it a lot cos I love the characters, but the floor was just not as exciting compared to the others 😂 And YES! I did not expect to love Bogdan as much as I do, but I would fight for that man! He’s so precious. I’m so curious to see who they choose in the adaptation to play him… (I haven’t properly looked yet, lol) 👀

  4. I’m currently reading Salvation in Death by JD Robb

    I’ve read:
1 Haunted in Death by JD Robb.
2 Born in Death by JD Robb.
3 Innocent in Death by JD Robb.
4 Kane by Lynn Raye Harris.
5 Creation in Death by JD Robb.
6 Eternity in Death by JD Robb.
7 Strangers in Death by JD Robb.

Next up should be a few more In Deaths. I’m enjoying these rereads and can remember surprisingly little. Plus, there’s not many new books I’m interested in currently

    • I can imagine with as many books as there are in the series that it’d be hard to remember all the details. I’d be super impressed by anyone who remembers it all! 🤭 I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying the re-reads though, Gill!

    • I’m playing this indie game called Moonlighter. It’s not new but it’s new to me and it’s meant to be cosy and in a way it is a great combo of cosy and dungeon, but I keep dying so I’m now taking a break! 😂 It just involves a lot of grinding for gear to sell to get rich and get more powerful gear, haha.

  5. Ooh what’s the new game that you’re obssessed with? I’m sorry that the third Dungeon Crawler Carl book wasn’t as much of a hit for you as the others. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the next setting more 🤞I still need to try that Oseman series 🙈 I’m glad you and Leslie are enjoying it though. And I can’t wait to read more of The Spellshop. So far the setting and characters have so much promise 😍 I’m hoping going into it with the right expectations will help us both fall for it 🤞

I’ll be interested to see how you find Letter To The Luminous Deep as I loved it but I know it had mixed reactions. I also can’t wait to try Fable 😍 whatever you read I hope you enjoy it though (and I’m curious to hear more about Phantasma in general given the hype surrounding it).

    • As usual, I’m catching up to comments quite late so I think I already mentioned the game in our chat but in case my memory is playing tricks on me, it’s Moonlighter! It’s a fun indie game I’m playing on Switch where I play a Merchant-Hero trawling the dungeons and solving the mystery and I’m low-key obsessed. I keep dying though so I’m taking a break right now, haha. I’m loving Oseman’s series—it’s super fun and entertaining and I’m so excited that there’s gonna be a series adaptation out on Netflix soon! 😍 The casting is actually perfect, lol.

I haven’t dived into Letter to the Luminous Deep yet because my mood keeps changing up on me. I’ve started the first few chapters but then I find it difficult to focus so I wind up picking something else up. Did you listen to it on audio by any chance or do you know if it’s recommended? I’m kind of tempted to see if the audio will help me zone in! The hype around Phantasma has made me cautious about picking it up with any expectation but… I haven’t really tried to pick it up again after getting through the first chapter. Sometimes it’s so hard being a mood reader! 🫣

      • You did but it sounds like a lot of fun. I’m sorry to hear you keep dying on it atm though. I hope you manage to get passed the bit you’re stuck on. I heard there was an adaptation but hadn’t really looked at the past. Sounds like I’ll have to get on with the books though. I need to get on with The Maid too as I think I saw that Amanda Seyfried was going to be in that one and I didn’t even know it was being adapted 😂🙈

I didn’t try the audio and I haven’t seen any reviews for anyone who did so I can’t really help there. Although I did have the same connection issue originally. Once I got into it I adored it but it did take a while to reach that point. I know someone who’s enjoying that one atm but I haven’t got around to trying it myself and don’t really know exactly when I will. I hope it goes better whenever you try to pick it up next though.
