Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

I missed last week due to being on holiday but I haven’t had much of a chance to read so over the past two weeks, I’ve finished 6 books!

Scavenge the Stars (Scavenge the Stars #1) by Tara Sim ★★☆☆☆
So much potential, not a bit of it achieved. That might sound harsh, but this honestly should not have been as painfully slow and boring as it was. Every time things started to get interesting, it would drop off again almost immediately. It was not great!
Dungeon Crawler Carl (Dungeon Crawler Carl #1) by Matt Dinniman ★★★★★
This was full-on out-of-this-world madness and absolute perfection. Seriously, 10/10, no notes. I loved it so much! And the audiobook? Incredible. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to everyone! The narrator does an impressive job voicing all the characters. I was blown away!
The Bad Boy Rule (Hellcats Hockey #1) by Maren Moore ★★★★☆
The Bad Boy Rule is a great start to a new hockey romance series from Moore. If you’re looking for personal growth and emotional vulnerability alongside many wickedly steamy moments, plus no third-act breakup, then I think you’ll enjoy this romance!
Carl’s Doomsday Scenario (Dungeon Crawler Carl #2) by Matt Dinniman ★★★★½
The outrageous dungeon adventures continue for Carl, Donut, and Mongo. I love this trio so much and how much their bond grows throughout the story! 💜 We meet so many new alien species, and unfortunately, some of the demonic monsters we encounter are part of a cursed circus. Talk about terrifying! I’m having so much fun with this series.
Arcana: The Lost Heirs by Sam Prentice-Jones ★★★★☆
This was a great start to a new witchy and mysterious graphic novel series. [CHECK OUT MY REVIEW!]
Two Twisted Crowns (The Shepherd King #2) by Rachel Gillig ★★★★½
I buddy read this with Leslie, and I thought it was a very satisfying conclusion to the duology! It was intense and action-packed, and Gillig answered all the questions I had by the end. I was surprised by how much I loved Elm and Ione in this one, but they quickly became my favourites!

- Embrace the Serpent ⇢ 71% ⇢ This had a strong start, but unfortunately, I’m not feeling very connected emotionally. There was a big reunification scene that should have been emotionally charged and devastating, but I shockingly felt nothing. I’m feeling the same way about the romance!
- The Dungeon Anarchist’s Cookbook ⇢ 38% ⇢ I guess you can say I’m obsessed with this series, lol. I’m eating them up (and the audiobooks make it very easy to do so). Admittedly, I’m finding this one a little less exciting compared to the previous two, but I’m still very invested!

I got a couple of buddy reads coming up, but as always, let’s see where the mood takes me!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

Ooh I read This Poison Heart a couple years ago and enjoyed it! (Wasn’t my favourite, but it was still pretty good) Hope you enjoy it!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, Isabella! I remember everyone talking about it and saying how much they enjoyed it when it first came out so I hope that I’ll feel the same about it. I need a win with these older Owlcrate editions! 🤭

You had me at no third-act breakup. Gosh! I hate those.

I don’t always mind them, especially when they’re not overly silly, easily avoided, or simply written in for the drama. Though that’s rare 🤭

Idk what Frank & Red is about, but the cover makes it look sweet. Hopefully you start connecting with Mara’s latest, otherwise don’t let yourself get into a slump!

It’s one of those feel-good unlikely friendship stories (I’ve been told it’s a little like Ove but I’ve not read it yet so I can’t say) but I’m excited to check it out. I expect it’ll pull on the heartstrings!

I really came to love Elm by the end, too. He was definitely my favorite character from that duology. I’m bummed to see you didn’t enjoy Scavenge the Stars. It’s one of the only books by Sim that I haven’t read. I usually really enjoy their books. Now I’m wondering if I should just stay away from it.

He’s such a great character. I’m sad that I didn’t feel as connected to Ravyn and Elspeth in the second book but I loved Elm and Ione a lot! It was definitely their book 🤭 I’m bummed about Scavenge the Stars too and I’m shocked by how much we didn’t enjoy it, especially because when it came out so many people seemed to be raving about it. If you already have the book maybe you can do a few chapters test or something, but otherwise, I don’t think you’re really missing anything by skipping it. 🫣
