✨ Welcome back to another week of LTB! ✨
Hello, friends. I’m well aware that it’s Saturday and I’m quite late in posting but I have been away on family holiday and it has been… A Time™️. It’s not atypical for our schedules to be fully packed and for us to run around like headless chickens for the whole time we’re on “holiday” and now I feel like I need a holiday from my holiday! 😂 But I digress… I’m sorry for dropping the ball and getting the LTB up late!
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme created by Rukky @Eternity Books and co-hosted by Aria @Book Nook Bits and myself! This week’s topic is:
All About Audiobooks
Suggested by: Jillian @ The Bookish Butterfly
Prompts: Do you like to read audiobooks? Where do you typically get audiobooks? Do you have any favorite narrators, or platforms for listening to them? Do you find it easy to access audiobooks, or can it be more challenging compared to ebooks and physical books?

Do you like to read audiobooks? Where do you typically get audiobooks?
I used to not really “get” audiobooks, mostly because I felt it was more of a hassle for me than reading an e-book or physical book, but I’ve come to really appreciate them over time and exposure. I’ve always wanted to listen to more audiobooks, but aside from actually needing to properly focus while listening to them (I can’t multitask while listening to save my life, lol) I can also be quite picky about the ones I listen to. That said, I’ve been tuning in to more of them now ever since I started going to the gym regularly and I find that working out while listening to an audiobook helps the time move faster and makes the gym more enjoyable! 😊
So far, my audiobooks have all been from Audible. This was always the one program that I could easily access as an international reader, and one that gave me the same access to a wide array of books. The ease of convenience is really why I’ve stayed with it as well. I think more programs have now made audiobooks available internationally (i.e. Libro.fm), but the costs are still significantly different. With Audible, I really enjoy getting access to their exclusives, the monthly credits that I can hoard until I want to binge buy audiobooks, and also their fairly regular 2 for 1 deals.
Do you have any favourite narrators?
I think the narrator that really made me love audiobooks for the first time was Andrew Kishino, who narrates The Green Bone Saga books. I can say with 100% certainty that his narration of the series is what made me fall even more in love with this story, and especially with the characters. I also love Emily Woo Zeller, who narrates The Poppy War Trilogy and does a fantastic job bringing the story and characters to life.
As I mentioned, I’m still finding my way with audiobooks, so I’m very much a noob and haven’t listened to very many. Other narrators that I’ve more recently discovered and loved are: Ell Potter & Michael Dodds (Emily Wilde Series), Patricia Rodriguez (The Wayfarers Series) and Jeff Hays (Dungeon Crawler Carl). Honestly, Hays might be my new favourite because he does a madly incredible job voicing all the characters in this amazing SFF series. His Princess Donut voice is zero notes *chefs kiss!* So good! 😍
I’m also a massive fan of full-cast/podcast style audiobooks and some of my faves include: Sadie, The Illuminae Files, The Aurora Cycle, Listen for the Lie, Between Earth and Sky, and Cloud Atlas.
Do you find it easy to access audiobooks, or can it be more challenging compared to ebooks and physical books?
As an international reader, I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s difficult but neither would I say it’s easy either. However, the platforms you have access to are more limited, and those platforms don’t always have the widest range of audiobooks either. I think another big factor that prevents me from reading more audiobooks, is the cost. Some of these audiobooks can be pretty expensive and if I had to choose between getting an audiobook or a physical book, I think I’d almost always choose purchasing a physical copy. I know in the US (and perhaps other places), people can access a whole bunch of audiobooks on platforms like Spotify, and that makes it much easier for them to listen to more books (even with limited listening periods). As an international reader, you can access audiobooks that way too, although the options for what can be accessed are very limited in comparison (due to copyright permissions, etc.)!

Do you love audiobooks? Do you have a favourite narrator? Which audiobooks would you recommend to others exploring the medium (and who simply want to add more audiobooks to their TBR/library, lol)?

no, I don’t do audio books. Hopefully never will have the need

Great post as always! In Spain I find that Storytel is the platform that works best for me, but I have never tried audible so I might give it a go

Ha! I was same way about audiobooks, but I love how I can multitask. It’s a great way to keep up with my reading. I am lucky to have access to audiobooks through the public library system. That is how I get all mine.

Since I can’t really multitask with audiobooks, I usually tend to avoid them. Altough, I’d like to try some again at some point or another. I’d get mine through Libby, which my local library is a member of, so that’s pretty useful.
Thanks for sharing!

Aww haha my family holidays sound exactly like yours, full to the brim with action!
I also recently started appreciating audiobooks, somehow it hadn’t occurred to me to try them out before I joined bookstagram. Since my mom always listened to them in the car I just always associated them with car drives only 😂😂. But now I find myself putting on an audiobook more often than I put on music 😲! The Aurora Cycle audibooks are ones I definitely want to listen to since so many people say they are fantastic! This is a great topic for LTB and I loved your post 🖤

I love audiobooks as I multi-task all the time. I have so many narrators that I love. Julia Whelan, Cassandra Campbell, Scott Brick, January Lavoy, Soneela Nankani, Saskia Maarleveld, Richard Armitage and more. I find when I listen to a series, that narrator becomes a favourite for those characters. I’m very lucky to have lots of access to audiobooks these days. My libraries have a lot and I access them through Libby, Cloud and Hoopla. I also use audible, libro and chirp to purchase and Everand, which is a subscription, is a borrowing platform. I probably listen to more books now than ones I read. It evolved over the years, especially when I was having eye issues, which is not a problem anymore.
