#WWWWednesday: 12 March 2025

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve finished 3 books. Yay for another 5-star read! 🥳

The Knight and the Butcherbird by Alix E. Harrow ★★★★★
It’s no surprise that I ended up loving this short story. Just give me anything by Harrow and I’ll probably love it, lol. 😂 I’ll be posting a mini-review tomorrow!

A Song for You and I by K. O’Neill ★★★★☆
This was a beautiful and heartwarming graphic novel. I’m a huge fan of O’Neill’s graphic novels. Their stories are always so full of heart and their artwork is always fantastic. O’Neill is definitely an auto-buy author for me at this point! [CHECK OUT MY REVIEW + BOOK LOOK!]

Quicksilver (Fae & Alchemy #1) by Callie Hart ★★★½
This was a buddy read with Leslie 💜 and I honestly wish that I loved this as much as she did! I ended up having a better time with it as the story went on but I guess my critical brain was on critical overdrive and I just didn’t end up vibing with it as much as I hoped to. 🤭 I’m excited to see where the story goes though and I’m glad the wait won’t be too long!

The Sword of Kaigen ⇢ 15%

After having this on my TBR for so long, I’m finally reading it as a buddy read with Becky. The writing flows well but elements of the world-building have me feeling pretty confused, lol. The glossary is definitely my best friend so far! 😂 That said, I’m enjoying it a lot and I’m curious to see where the story goes. I wish it was the weekend already so I could just keep reading!

Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson

This is the next Owlcrate Book Box read I’m doing with Leslie, Julie and Ali! This has been sat on the TBR for way too long considering how excited I was for it. 😂 I’m so glad that it’s finally getting read, I just hope that this will be a win for all four of us this time!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  1. I loved Vespertine and just wish that there had been a sequel as the story didn’t seem finished to me. I thought Sword of Kaigen was great too and was a stand alone which I also loved about it.

    • Oh no, I’m bummed to hear that about Vespertine but I’m glad that you pointed that out so I guess I can lower my expectations a bit? 😂 The new language/terminology in Sword of Kaigen is what’s slowing down my read a bit but I’m really enjoying how smoothly the writing flows and I’m so invested in our character’s journeys! Happy to hear that you enjoyed it too!

    • It’s funny cos Leslie and I usually have quite similar reading tastes and ratings but this time it just didn’t work as much for me as it did for her! 😂 I really wanted to turn off my critical brain but my brain would not let me, haha. I hope you’ll have more success with that if/when you pick the book up!

  2. I am SO excited for The Knight and the Butcherbird, it might have to be my next read after we finish Sword of Kaigen. I totally get what you mean about the terminology, it’s definitely slowing down my reading a little while I try and work everything out, but I’m absolutely intrigued so far. I hope you enjoy all your reads 🙂

    • Aaah, YES! Omg, I hope you love it, Becky! 😍 Haha, yeah, the terminology has been slowing down my reading especially with how frequently I have to flip to the Glossary and it’s really making me wish I had a physical copy cos dang, it’s hard with the Kindle! But I’m very intrigued too and I can’t wait to keep reading. I hope we both end up loving this!

  3. I know, I wish you would have loved it as much as I did. It’s okay though! 🙂 I LOOOVE Sword of Kaigen and one of my favorite books. I hope you end up loving it! I can’t wait for our next OC buddy read!

    • Totally okay! I’m still excited for the next book in the series and would be down to read it together if you’d be up for it! 😉 I also remember my interest in the Sword of Kaigen really came about after I finished reading your review or reading somewhere about how much you loved that book! I can see why you loved it and although the world-building terms are a bit confusing, I’m slowly getting used to them but I’m FULLY invested in the characters! I can’t wait for our OC buddy read too. I hope it’s a win for us all!

      • Yes, of course! We should totally buddy read it. I am so excited for it. haha. I am going to jump into Phantasma next because that was one I was seeing a lot when I was seeing Quicksilver. I hope I like it. Ohh, it’s so good. The characters are so amazing. Ugh! I should re-read it at some point. I wonder if there’s an audio version at the library, but I doubt it, since it’s Indie. I just looked and nope- haha. Omg, I don’t even own a physical copy!!! I need to get on that. lol

  4. The cover for A Song for You & I is so cute! I’m hoping to pick up Quicksilver soon since I have the audio from the library, and now I’m curious to see whether I’ll lean more towards your rating or Leslie’s. I still need to read Vespertine, too. I went on a Rogerson buying spree after reading and loving Sorcery of Thorns a few years ago. Then I never read any of the other books. lol. I’ll get to them one day… hopefully. I hope you continue to enjoy your reads!

    • I would 100% love to hear your thoughts on Quicksilver whenever you pick it up! If you wanna chat about it while you’re reading, feel free to message me anytime! 😂 The reason I was so excited for Vespertine when it first came out was because of how much I loved Sorcery of Thorns! I still haven’t read anything else by Rogerson to date, haha. One day… 🤭 Happy reading to you as well, Chris!
