#WWWWednesday: 26 February 2025

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve finished 1 book. I don’t know what’s going on with me but I’m just not reading as much as I want to. Nothing is hooking my attention and I’m finding it difficult to get through books. I hope it’s not a slump! 🫣

Emily Wilde’s Compendium of Lost Tales (Emily Wilde #3) by Heather Fawcett ⇢ ★★★★★

Hello to my first 5 star read of 2025! 🥳 Well, of course, Emily Wilde took that honour. I loved this book and while I’m sad that Emily & Wendell’s story is over, I thought this was a great conclusion to the series. [Check out my review]

  • Four Dead Queens ⇢ 51% I admit that I’m not enjoying this as much as I thought I’d be. I find the “present-day” MC frustrating, and the perspective of the queens is slightly boring. I’m not feeling motivated to pick it up because not a whole lot is happening even this far in but I’m looking forward to finishing it, lol 🙂
  • The Scorpion and the Night Blossom ⇢ 12% I just started it yesterday and I love it already! Vivid world-building, bad-ass FMC.
  • Reign of the Talon ⇢ 37% This isn’t my main focus read but I’ve been picking it up each time I’m bored with my other read or I’m between books and unsure what to read next. It’s slow going but I feel we’re getting to a massive turning point soon!

What are you currently reading? I hope you’re enjoying whatever book you’ve picked up, friends!

  1. I am so bummed about Four Dead Queens. I’m so unsure what we are even reading about. lol. I wonder if it’s why these Owlcrate books have sat on our shelves for so long, unread. haha. I hope we find a gem soon because I didn’t love last month’s either! I hope you have a lovely week, my friend!!

    • I’m so bummed as well! It just didn’t go the way I expected it to and there was so much potential to explore. I didn’t feel anything for anyone or about anything. 😂 I feel like we should’ve all just DNF it, haha. I remember hearing good things about this one when it first came out so I was excited about it. Now I’m like, how did people enjoy this?! 🙃 I hope we’ll find a gem in the stack soon too! Sending good vibes your way, lovely! 💜

  2. Aww I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling a bit with your reading. If it’s any consolation I’ve been the same although in my case it’s mostly been where I’ve spent too much time on other things. Plus I’ve had a recurring headache over the past couple of days which isn’t exactly helping. At least what you read was five star worthy though and such a tremendous hit 🥰 yay for Emily & Wendell.I’m sorry to see that two of your current reads aren’t going wonderfully but I’m glad that Scorpion has you gripped so much already. I loved the world so I’m not surprised. Have you reached the first meeting of the main characters yet?It looks like you have some lovely reads coming up too. Enjoy 🥰

    • Oh no, I’m sorry to hear about the recurring headache. I get those when I’m particularly stressed and sleep deprived and they’re not fun. I hope that the headaches go away soon though! I’ve been trying to look on the upside of having only finished one book in the last week too and I’m glad that at last I’ve found my first 5-star read! I’m keen to get to the weekend so I can binge Scorpion. I feel like it’s one that, once the action really gets started, I’d be loathe to put down. I just got to the caravan/convoy part and I’m guessing that he will be one of the FMCs, right? I haven’t learned his name yet though but I liked their meeting! An Ying is SO fierce—I love her! 🤭

      • Thank you. I’m sorry to hear that you get them sometimes too. I’ve always suffered with them and it’s so frustrating when they keep returning like this. Yay for the five star read 🥰 and I hope that plan works out for you. It’s definitely a compelling read and I really hope you enjoy it. Ah I asked because that meeting was so unexpected and memorable 😂😂 kind of the reverse of a meet cute really but I loved it. It’ll be interesting to see what you think once you learn more 🥰

        • I love when meet cutes are meet awkwards or just fully the opposite with one of them trying to kill each other. It makes their interactions and their connection so much more intense! We’ve made it past the first trial now and the post-congrats scene was kinda heartbreaking. I kind wanna be mad at An Ying but also, I guess if I’ve been fighting my whole life, I would maybe possibly be in her shoes? Idk, I still kinda wanna give her a small shake though, haha. I’m so glad that you’ve read this book and that you’ll get what I mean with all this, lol.

Also, TGIF cos after some blog hopping I can hopefully make a big chunk of progress in the book and I don’t have to worry about getting up early tomorrow! We love a good bingeable read. 😍 Hope you’re feeling better and are having a good Friday so far!

          • Yes definitely. It’s such a refreshing change too and definitely leaves a lasting impact. Ah I know what you mean. It can be frustrating at times concerning things like trust. But then given her experience it also does make a bit of sense. Although I think if I’d arrived like her I’d have been too terrified to say anything 😂

Yay that sounds like a wonderful plan 🥰 I hope you get to have a nice, long reading session like planned and look forward to hearing how you find the rest of the book. Thank you 🥰 the headache does seem to have finally gone and I’ve finally started another arc which seems very promising so far 🤞 I hope you have a wonderful weekend 🥰

  3. I think maybe your not wanting to read so much could be because you loved Emily such a lot? Sometimes, if I really love a book, nothing else quite lives up to it for a while. I hope the feeling passes quickly as it looks as though you have some great books coming up.

    • I think that’s definitely a factor but I think it’s also probably because my mood so far this year has been kind of all over the place. 🤣 As a mood reader, it’s affecting me a lot (even more than I realised, lol)! I hope I find some good books too and I hope you have a great week ahead!

  4. Awesome books! Emily Wilde and A Song For Your And I are on my TBR! So glad to see that it was a 5 start read for you, this gives me high hopes for when I pick it up since I just bought the first book yesterday! 🙂 Happy reading

    • Emily Wilde is a wonderfully cosy fantasy and I love it so much! I hope you do too 🙂 I’m very excited for A Song for You and I! I love K. O’Neill so much—their graphic novels are always so heartwarming and sweet. Happy reading to you as well!

      • Thank you!! I did love The Tea Dragon Society. Hence, I wanted to read A Song For You and I 🙂 As for Wilde, there is a book club that is picking it up, so I might try to join in. Looking forward to your other reviews:)
