#TopTenTuesday: Cosy or Atmospheric?

We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Books to Read During a Storm (these can be cozy/comfy reads, books with storms in them, atmospheric reads for dark and stormy nights, light reads to combat the heavy weather, etc.) (Submitted by Astilbe.)

I don’t know about you but I’m always looking for a good atmospheric or cosy/comforting read that I can cuddle up with when it’s gloomy, rainy, or stormy outside. What I read depends on my mood at any moment, so I’ve decided to split my list into two and spotlight both cosy/light and dark/atmospheric books. Let’s go!

*book covers are linked to my review if I have written one

Cosy/Light Reads

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea
Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute
A Rival Most Vial
That Time I Got Drunk and Saved A Demon
Before the Coffee Gets Cold

Moody/Atmospheric Reads

Truly Devious
Starling House
Force of Nature
The Silence of Bones
Immortal Dark

Do you prefer cosy/light reads when it’s stormy out or do you go for something that’s more atmospheric to match what’s going on outside?

  1. I have come around and just bought Drunk and Saved A Demon on Kindle last night! It was 2.99, so I had to. Glad to see it on this list. Ohh, Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea is such an amazing read!!

  2. I like that you can differentiate between the halves of your list by colors of the cover haha
I love Before the coffee gets cold! Sorry I missed that on my list this week haha
All look like such fun reads!

    • OH. I didn’t even realise that about the covers but I’ve just took a look and you’re so right! That’s so funny 🤭 The atmospheric book covers are really screaming they’re moody reads, haha. I adored Before the Coffee Gets Cold. I can’t wait to read the other books in that series 🙂

    • Oh, why am I surprised that you haven’t read it yet? Maybe because I see that you’ve read so many Japanese translations lately and I just assumed that you’d read it. 🤭 It’s one of the few that I’ve read but have many more on my TBR!

  3. During a storm, I look for light, cozy reads. The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea and Before the Coffee Gets Cold are two that I would definitely grab during a cold snowy winter night, or stormy summer. In fact, I believe both of these might be on my TBR shelf, but will need to check. Great list, Dini.

  4. Uh, I’ve added Before the Coffee Gets Cold to my 25 in 2025 list, and you’re right, it definetely looks very cozy! I read my first 2 books by Axie Oh this year and I plan on reading her other titles, so The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea is also in my radar!

    • Yay! That book made me cry buckets (although admittedly I cry easily with books and one of the storylines also hit very close to home, lol) but I hope you enjoy it! I still need to read Axie Oh’s contemporary books but The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea is one of my favourites 💜 I hope you love it too!

      • I can only remember ever crying with 1 book, which also hit a bit close to home. I get emotional a lot, but that one made me stop reading in order to recover myself. Now I am wondering about how I’ll feel about it. For a book to make one cry so much, it must be so touching.

        • I’m ngl, I’m quite an emotional reader and it honestly doesn’t take much for me to cry while reading 🤣 So I don’t know how easily it could or would make others cry cos I don’t think I’m a very good basis for comparison. I can literally tear up in a mildly emotional scene but I also find it really cathartic so I enjoy it hehe
