#WWWWednesday: 24 July 2024

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I’ve finished three books since last week.

The Second Son (Betrayal Prophecies #2) by Adrienne Tooley ★★★½
This was a satisfying conclusion to this duology. I wish I connected with it more emotionally but I appreciated Tooley’s writing and storytelling abilities! Check out my review.

The Secret of the Fang (Meesh the Bad Demon #2) by Michelle Lam ★★★★☆
An intense, action-packed and adorable second book in this middle-grade fantasy graphic novel series! I enjoyed this one a lot. Check out my review.

Near Misses & Cowboy Kisses by Katrina Emmel ★★★★☆
This is a perfect easy-breezy summer read. If you’re a hopeless romantic who has always dreamed of a summer fling or falling in love over the summer, you’ll enjoy this sweet, romantic read. Emmel also covers the big life-shifting change Riley has to deal with and does a great job balancing the two.

When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain ⇢ 76%

I finally picked this back up again on the train this morning. It’s not the perfect commute read simply because I want to soak up every word Vo writes and I can’t do that when I’m easily distracted in public transport, but I’m still really enjoying it. This is truly fantastic storytelling! 😍

Such Charming Liars ⇢ 13%

I’m not fully charmed yet but we’ve got the premise set up now and I feel the “action” will kick off very soon. Keen to see where this goes cos the character arcs are interesting!

A Circle of Stars ⇢ 30%

This is quite slow-paced and I’m not a huge fan of the MC, although he has been through a great deal of trauma from the first page and I do feel for him. The world-building is also very patchy and I keep getting mixed up, but that could be me and not the book? Let’s see! I’ve put it aside while I get my ARCs/tour reads done.

My mood has been funky lately so other than the ARCs, let’s see!

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends!

  1. I had a lot of trouble with the world-building and pacing in A Circle of Stars, too. So, it is not just you. I hope you enjoy it a little more as you get further into it. It did have some great stuff, but the weaknesses definitely dragged it down a bit.

    • I’m kinda tempted to DNF right now because I haven’t gone back to it after my tour reads and I’m not feeling particularly pulled back to it either. Let’s see! Glad to know it wasn’t just me that struggled with the world-building and pacing though. I was so confused about how it felt like I *should* have known all about the world but knew nothing, haha. 😅
