#WWWWednesday: 17 July 2024

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

It’s been two weeks since my last update and in that time I read seven books. You can see I went on a mini binge with these two authors to mixed results. I haven’t written reviews for any of these even though I plan to (at least mini ones) so… Fun times ahead! 😂

Homerun Proposal (Orleans University #1) by Maren Moore ★★★★¼
This sports romance ft. the best friend’s brother was funny and very sexy. There’s the “virgin” trope which isn’t usually my thing but I enjoyed how Moore wrote the story with these two. Hallie was also “not like other girls” and while that would usually annoy me, I didn’t mind. She was weird and fun and her chemistry with Lane was FIRE!

Catching Feelings (Orleans University #2) by Maren Moore ★★★★★
Loved this enemies-to-lovers romance! The set up from book one was great cos you already know they have big feelings for each other and not in a good way. This antagonistic vibe added great sexual tension to their chemistry and it was explosive and sexy. Moore writes great simps!

The Newspaper Nanny by Maren Moore ★★½
This didn’t work for me at all. I hate the miscommunication or lack of communication trope and this had it in spades. The FMC was irritatingly immature and there was also a scene that involved an inebriated MC that had my red flag waving! No, thanks.

Do Me A Favor by Cathy Yardley ★★★★☆
I didn’t love this as much as Role Playing but gah, there’s something about Yardley’s romances that just feel so comforting, wholesome and cosy! I ended this feeling good warm fuzzies. Hudson and Willa were adorable and their romance was so uplifting! 🥰

Alabama Summer Series by J. Daniels
I won’t be rating this series because I kind of “hate” read it. That sounds terrible but it was a lot like an angsty toxic trainwreck and there was so much that made me cringe yet somehow, I still couldn’t look away. You have any books like that? That was this series for me and I think it’s safe to say that this author is not for me! 😂

The Second Son ⇢ 89%

I’m on the last bit of this book for the blog tour tomorrow. I know I’m cutting it real close 😂 I think this is an interesting duology though. I still feel like I’m missing the emotional aspect of this, which is surprising given what it’s about, but it’s unique and I’m actually not disliking it!

When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain ⇢ 24%

Haven’t picked this back up or made further progress in two weeks but I do want to get back to it. Will probably go back to the start since it’s been so long but I don’t mind. It’s a short one!

It’s time to seriously dive into the ARCs!

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends!

  2. It’s interesting to see your ratings for Moore’s books – night and day. I do have the Orleans U books on my TBR, so I am glad you enjoyed them. I never hate read, but I don’t like those toxic, angsty books. Though, I guess that is subjective.

    • Yeah, that third one by her just wasn’t for me. It was one of her earlier releases and I could really see the difference in quality of the writing and characters! It also needed a whole lot of editing 😂 I don’t typically hate read but gosh darn, these books were addicting but also frustrating to read, haha. I can’t explain!

  3. Homerun Proposal continues to be one of my favorite romances I have read this year. Sadly, Catching Feelings was a let down for me, but I am happy you enjoyed it! I have also been eyeing Cathy Yardley’s books–I should give them a shot!

    • That’s awesome! I can definitely see why it’d be one of your favourites. I’m a big fan of the simp energy in Moore’s romances—we love a man who’s a goner for their woman and who treat them like queens. 😍 I just saw the next book in the Orleans U series has come out and I can’t wait to read it!
