#WWWWednesday: 12 June 2024

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve finished three books. It’s been the slowest of slow reading weeks. My brain is just not in it aside from finishing my Murderbot buddy read, I picked up two erotic romances recommended by the Fated Mates podcast. The first was just “ok” and the second was much more enjoyable!

System Collapse (Murderbot Diaries #7) by Martha Wells ★★★☆☆
I buddy read this with Leslie and we both had a hard time getting into it but I did struggle through to the end, even though I did enjoy it much more when the action kicked off. That said, I know this is definitely more “me” than the book cos my brain is in Struggle Town at the minute. It felt like there was a lot more sci-fi jargon this time around!

The Doctor (Nashville Neighborhood #1) by Nikki Sloane ★★★☆☆
This is the first in a series of taboo romances and this one features a girl and her ex-bf’s father. In the genre of erotic romances, the taboo tropes aren’t really my cuppa but having read something similar once before, I was curious enough to check it out. Their romance felt too insta and I wasn’t particularly intrigued by their sexual journey either. It was just OK.

The Frat Boy (Nashville Neighborhood #4) by Nikki Sloane ★★★★☆
This was actually really fun. Their antagonistic feelings for each other were intense (and understandable on both ends) but it also made the angst and tension of their sexual journey even hotter! 🥵 Their sexual chemistry was undeniable and I loved to see them come to terms with their romantic feelings and what it means to be in an “uncommon” taboo relationship. Overall, it was refreshing to read about them as I don’t think it’s a common dynamic (or at least I don’t read enough erotic romance to know if it is)

I’ve been having trouble figuring out my mood which means I’ve been reading very slowly! I’ve got these two going at the minute…

True Love and Other Impossible Odds ⇢ 56%

I’m on the fence about this because while I’m enjoying it, I feel disconnected to our MC and I don’t know if that’s intentional or not. Grace is all about the “numbers” and doesn’t show much emotion or vulnerability but I think it’s necessary for the story. Curious to see if that turns around though!

The Cheerleaders ⇢ 32%

I picked this up as my morning commute read this past Monday, so it’s been a bit slow going but I’m enjoying it. It’s giving McManus on the YA mystery scale and I’ve got theories but they’re probably all wrong. 😂 I’ve had this on my backlist for ages though so I’m glad to finally be reading it!

We’ll see where my mood takes me!

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends!

  1. Oof I hope you get out of your slump soon, it’s tough to enjoy books when your brain is just not in it! I stopped reading Murderbot at the 5th book and I do feel like it had too much sci-fi jargon for my liking so I totally get it! How’s Moving Castle is one I LOVE but read once so many years ago, I’d love a re-read!
