Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve finished six books! You can see I went through a bonkers romance phase but it’s been curbed for now, lol.

Storm of Locusts (The Sixth World #2) by Rebecca Roanhorse ★★★★½
This was an overdue ARC that I’m glad I finally read but sadly, the execution didn’t live up to the blurb. The writing needed much more editing, the MC was a bit too irritating for me and despite being less than 300 pages, it felt much longer!
Dragonfruit by Makiia Lucier ★★★☆☆ (for now)
I’m so torn on this because I loved the diversity and islander cultural aspects but overall, I found the story was so passive. There was no tension and very little development in character and world. It also read like the author couldn’t decide what to include so she just included everything. There was potential but the delivery fell short…
The Dead Lands #1-3 by Kati Wilde ★★★★☆, ★★★½, ★★☆☆☆
I’ve read the first three books in this series of erotic romantasy novellas because I had the hankering to read some bonkers romance. I was pleasantly surprised by the first book cos we got decent world + character building and I loved it! The second book was still fun but not as enjoyable as the first though leaned more erotic and the bonkers bit was starting to show, lol. The third book is where the author kinda lost me although she prefaced that this was gonna be really bonkers and well, she delivered there. It just wasn’t to my taste in bonkers. 🫣😬
All That’s Left in the World (All That’s Left in the World #1) by Erik J. Brown ★★★★☆
I picked up this post-apocalyptic queer coming-of-age love story on a whim and I’m glad I did. Do check CW/TWs cos it’s about a life-ending pandemic and it is horrifying. I was able to take it in stride and found this was a well-written and intense slow-burn about two teens learning how to live again after losing literally everything. It made me angry, broke my heart, and made me deeply sad but also made me hope.

Voyage of the Damned ⇢ 53%
I’ve finally returned to this and while it’s not a fast-paced fantasy mystery, I am enjoying it a lot! I am laughing so much cos the characters are wonderful—Dee and what ends up being this little found family are just… Everything! I love them 😍

After putting it off for a hot minute, Leslie and I are finally getting around to reading this! We’ve read the whole Murderbot series together and we love it so I’m excited to return to this world. 🥰 I’m starting it tonight!

We’ll see where my mood takes me!

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends!

I’m glad to see you are enjoying Voyage of the Damned! Dee has been a pretty polarizing figure based on reviews I’ve seen, but I adored him and his found family. I see you also liked All That’s Left in the World. My pre-order of the sequel is on its way to me, and I’m looking forward to seeing where their story goes next. I hope you enjoy all of your reading this week. 🙂

I can see why Dee would be polarizing and though I wasn’t quite sure how to feel about him at the beginning, he has really come to grow on me. I think in large part it has to do with his relationships but I’m surprised by how much I relate to him, lol. 🥹 I didn’t realise you’d read All That’s Left in the World. I recently got the ARC of the second book but hadn’t got around to reading it but I plan to soon. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m glad you finally got to Dragonfruit. I have seen similar reviews around and was so worried because I know how excited you were for it! I’m sorry it didn’t live up. I am SO excited for Murderbot!! I went on a rant to Chris about how I was so excited to jump back into that world and he needed to read them. haha. Have a great day, Dini!! ❤

I’m so bummed Dragonfruit wasn’t what I expected it to be but I guess we can’t love them all! And Omg, YES! Tell Chris he needs to read Murderbot now! 😂 The beginning of this one has been a bit confusing but I think I’m getting more into it now. I love ART and Murderbot!

I know, I was bummed to see the reviews. Very true, we can’t win them all, which we know!! We have buddy read some duds. What?! Chris hasn’t read Murderbot? I might have known this and forgot.

Okay, I have been wanting to read some unhinged fantasy romance lately too so I added the Dead Lands to my TBR. Currently reading one called “A Viking’s Peace: Vikings in Space” and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet 😂 Anyways i’m curious about How Not to Drown in a Glass of Water because it’s a latino saying my mom says all the time!

Haha, I hope you enjoy them! They do fall a bit on the erotic side but they’re fun and unhinged, especially the third one 😂 Ooh, Vikings in Space sounds interesting!? I’m going to have to look this one up and if it’s on KU I might add it to my list to check out in the future, lol. I haven’t heard the saying “drown in a glass of water” before but it’s such an intriguing title and I’d heard good things about it so I hope to read it soon. 😃

Haha yeah sometimes that’s just the type of book to have a silly fun time! & It’s very short & I’m actually reading it to follow along with a podcast/erotic book club show that I’m watching 😂 It’s not new by any means but it’s been hilarious and fun to watch. I hope you enjoy these all when you get to them!

I struggle with reading book that even mention Covid. Not sure how I would do with a life-ending pandemic. Asking for a Friend looks adorable. That has my vote.

Howl’s movie is one of my all time faves so I’m a bit nervous going into the book but I have heard great things about it. I hope you enjoy it if you check it out (and Voyage too)! 😍

You got through a lot of books! So many have great covers too. I’ve seen a lot of good things about Voyage of the Damned and glad you are enjoying it as well.

Voyage is a lot funnier than I expected it to be but also a little bit dark and a lot emotional. It’s been a fun adventure so far!

I’m not going to lie, that Dead Leads series *does* look curious, though it’s disappointing the quality drops off further into the series!
