Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Since last week, I’ve managed to finish four books. I had two 5-star reads! 😍

The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy #1) by Marie Rutkoski ★★★★☆
Having been published ages ago I was worried this wouldn’t hold up well but I was pleasantly surprised by it. I think my younger self would’ve gobbled this down even faster with its angsty-AF forbidden romance but I enjoyed it a lot and can’t wait to continue the series!
Night Hawk by Beverly Jenkins ★★★★★
My first historical romance by Ms. Jenkins was a smash hit! I had so much fun traipsing across the Wild West and learning about new-to-me history from BIPOC povs (which was amazing). Maggie was so FIERCE, Ian was fantastic and their romance was so intense, passionate and swoony!
More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera ★★★★★
This was a deeply sad (and ngl, depressing) book. I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy it cos part 1 was just “ok” but then it ended and I was suddenly drowning in a deep well of emotions. Holy granola, I loved it. It was my first 2024 read that had me bawling like there’s no tomorrow. SO GOOD! 😭
Destiny’s Embrace (Destiny #1) by Beverly Jenkins ★★★★☆
Another wonderful Bev Jenkins romance. Although Mariah and Logan’s romance was instalove, I found their chemistry incendiary! I just love sassy, smart and tough heroines SO much and heroes who are absolute simps for their leading ladies are the best! I think this is gonna be my year of Jenkins.

There There ⇢ 30%
I picked this up for a reading challenge (details on it tomorrow!) and I’ve struggled to connect to the story from early on. I empathise with the characters and they’re an interesting mix of individuals plus, the historical facts slay so hard. I’m just having a hard time focusing and I think this is gonna be a ‘read at home’ book only! At times I feel like this might be too smart for me. 😂

Their Heart A Hive ⇢ 12%
Not sure if I’m going to continue this. The writing is whimsical and the story intriguing but I’m struggling to focus on what’s happening. This technically sounds like something I’d love so it might be my mood so I’m going to read a bit more before deciding whether to DNF for now.

I’m looking at some of these as options but it will entirely depend on my mood!

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends!

You had a lot of high ratings this week! That is awesome. 😍

I couldn’t have been more shocked by how this reading year has started for me! 😂 I hope it continues!

How awesome that your first read of the year was 5 stars! The same happened to me (which is truly shocking because I have maybe two 5-star books in an entire year). I’ve seen There There on a lot of “highly anticipated” lists lately but I’m not sure it’s one for me.

Yay for also getting a 5-star read to kick off your new reading year. It’s SUCH a good feeling. I hope the goodness also lasts for both of us as the year proceeds! 😂 Also, There There is definitely not gonna be a book for everyone. It’s pretty sad and I struggled to get into it but I think it was my bad for starting this on the train cos I think it’s a “quiet space” read. Not sure if it’ll be as amazing for me as it is for everyone else but it’s starting to grow on me!

You’ve had a great reading week!! Oh my gosh, for a second I thought the Adam Silvera book was Matt Rife bc the cover kinda looks like him. I was about to be like nooooo. haha. I feel like Adam’s bread and butter are books that are so sad! I remember really loving The Winner’s Curse trilogy! I’m always so scared to re-read older series because I’m scared I’ll hate them. haha Have a great week, Dini! ❤

OMG GIRL, NO! MATT RIFE I’M CRYING 😂😭 Woof, if that had been the case I’d buy you a plane ticket just to smack me upside the head, HAHA. 😜 Matt Rife lookalike aside, the book was amazing! I’ve read a couple of Silvera’s book and I think you might be right about his B&B but as a melancholy baby I feel like it suits me, lol. I love sad books! I hope you have a great reading week too, Leslie! 💜

HAHAHA!! I would gladly accept the ticket! haha! I’m glad that it was an amazing book though! I’ll have to remember it when I want to read a sad book. I have to be in the mood. Lol.

I won a copy of that Silvera book back in the day. Never read it, but I did own a copy. Glad to see such a strong start for you.

Ooh, I’m so glad that I came across it while randomly browsing the store last year. That last chapter was a much needed soothing balm after the original ending 😂

More Happy Than Not was a good read, but so emotional! Glad you loved it.

SO very emotional. I was not expecting it especially since at the start I felt lukewarm about it. SO GOOD 😭😍

Celeste Ng is one of those authors I’d really like to try sometime. I’ll be curious to see what you think of Everything I Never Told You.

I’ve read Little Fires Everywhere by Ng and it was a 5-star for me so I hope that the next one of hers I read will be the same! I hope to finally read it this year too, lol 😂
