Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:
- What did you read last?
- What are you currently reading?
- What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday, I’ve finished four books.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna ★★★★★
Everyone told me I’d love it and I did! It’s charming, whimsical, cosy, and absolutely heartwarming. Tough topics were handled with care and I grew so attached to these characters. Mika Moon is amazing and Jamie was the ultimate cinnamon roll. And the found family? ✨ Absolute perfection! ✨
Spell Bound by F.T. Lukens ★★★★☆
Honestly, I can very easily see Lukens becoming an auto-buy author. Their books are well-written, humorous, charming and full of heart and happily, this was no different! Rook and Sun were adorkable and the magic was wild. Plus, this is another story that proves the superiority of the found family trope!
Clean Sweep (The Innkeeper Chronicles #1) by Ilona Andrews ★★★★☆
2023 is apparently my year of reading Ilona Andrews! They have a great formula of kickass heroines fueled by sarcasm, with strong morals and hearts of gold paired with paranormal mysteries and lots of interesting magic. They also do the hate-to-love trope so well! But they tend to throw readers into ‘new’ worlds head first and it can be overwhelming, like it was a bit here. Still really enjoyed it and I’m ready for more! 😍
A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating A Demon (Glimmer Falls #1) by Sarah Hawley ★★★½
This was a fun read. It was humorous, entertaining, and sweet but I have to admit there were some frustrating moments, not just with Mariel’s horrible family (who were the absolute WORST) but with Mariel herself. I liked her a lot at first but towards the end, I struggled to accept her irritating and hurtful actions. Ultimately, I didn’t love this the way I thought I would but it was still good and I would still recommend it!

I’m still mood-reading on hard mode but I’m also doing pretty okay with the spooky-season-but-make-it-lite reads!

- A Bright Heart → 30% → Ngl, this had a rough start with the writing but it seems to have gotten better, so I have hope! 🤞🏽
- Shades of Magic Vol. 1: The Steel Prince → 30% → I stopped reading and never got back to this. I don’t know why it’s so short! Sigh, my brain… 😂
- Heartbreaker → 18% → The optimal mood has not happened yet!

More ✨spooky-season-but-make-it-lite reads✨ and hopefully, soon, all the BIPOC reads for the #23for23 challenge, too!?! 🤞🏽

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends!

Spell Bound is on my TBR for this month, so I’m really glad you liked it!

Yeah! I’m kinda loving it and maybe I’ll surprise myself end up working my way through a possibility pile that I’ve posted for what’s likely the first time in my life!? 😂 Your review made me excited for Woke Up Like This and I hope I love it, too. Have a great week ahead, Deanna!

It sounds like you had the same struggles that I did with A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon. Glad I wasn’t the only one that felt that way. I felt like I had a very unpopular opinion on it.

Oh good, not just me then! I mean, it was cute I guess? But yeah… Mariel… Hmm… Kinda bummed we both didn’t love it more but glad to know I’m not alone in feeling this way about it 😂

I have my eye on the Amy Lea book. I like time loop/travel stuff. I am over the moon that you loved Witches. It was a warm-hug kind of book

I don’t think I really have opinions about time loop/travel stuff but I read Deanna’s review for it and it sounded really cute! Witches is definitely a warm hug kind of book. The kind of warm hugs I’d love to be smothered with, please! 😍

I agree with Lukens being an auto buy author. Love their books! And they’re super nice too. My daughter and I met them a few months ago. And I can’t wait to hear what you think of My Roommate is a Vampire. It’s been on my radar for a while. Happy reading, Dini!

Ooh, it’s awesome that you got to meet them! 😍 Vampire Roomie has been on my radar for a while too and I don’t know why I keep hesitating to pick it up but hopefully, it’ll happen soon, lol. I hope you enjoy it too whenever you read it!

I just started A Bright Heart and so far the premise intrigue me bc it reminds me so much of a recent c-drama I watch, but I do hope the writing is better 😅

I don’t know much about c-drama and wuxia stories and all of that but I can definitely imagine it playing out like one! I just finished it today and honestly, I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I expected. It’s not without many flaws but still quite enjoyable! Maybe it’s just right for my brain space right now 🙂 I hope you enjoy it, Tasya!
