A librarian’s quiet life becomes a page-turner of adventure, romance, and murder in a thrilling novella by USA Today bestselling author Beverly Jenkins. For Jasmine Ware, curating books for an exclusive clientele is her passion. Until an old friend, a dealer of rare books, goes missing and his partner is murdered. Linked to an artifact smuggled out of the ancient library at Timbuktu, the mystery draws Jasmine deeper into a plot that could cost her her life. Air force veteran and private security ace Torr Noble is accustomed to adrenaline-pumping stakes. He never expected a private librarian would be so intriguing, but Jasmine is full of surprises. As the connection between them burns hot, a powerful old enemy raises his head. Torr and Jasmine must work together to find the missing dealer. Will the search be the start of a happily ever after or a disastrous THE END?

TL;DR: Rare Danger is a well-balanced blend of romance and suspense and I really enjoyed the writing and character development! This was my first Beverly Jenkins book and it definitely won’t be my last! If you’re looking for a quick sensual romance between sensible and mature characters mixed with an intriguing fast-paced mystery, I would recommend giving this a try (FYI: it’s on KU)!
Beverly Jenkins is an author I’ve been meaning to try for a while now. She has a big reputation in the romance community and her books are so well-loved, especially her historical romances, but when I saw this on Kindle Unlimited, I immediately added it to my library and was reeled in the minute I started reading.
I really enjoyed the writing and the character development! The story was written in a way that’s easy to digest and it was also very well-paced. While the plot was slightly outlandish and I had to really suspend my disbelief at the way some of the events went down and how easily the ‘bad guys’ capitulated, I still managed to thoroughly enjoy the story’s progression. That said, it was the characters that won me over!
Torr and Jasmine were such realistic and relatable characters and I’m glad that we got both their POVs. These characters were in their late 30s/early 40s and I loved that they actually acted like it! Jasmine manages her own business that curates personal libraries for mostly rich people. I loved her confidence, sassiness and how she truly suffers no fools. She’s intelligent and has an infectious positive personality that I really enjoyed reading. In contrast, Torr had a more measured and steady air about him. He’s a former Air Force captain who runs his own security consulting firm that works mainly with high-level government officials, diplomats and the like. He has a mysterious yet sensual persona and doesn’t play games—he goes for what he wants and what he wants is Jasmine. While I enjoyed watching them get to know each other and fight back the sexual chemistry that they have in order to solve the mystery, this was very instalove and the too-perfect HEA didn’t entirely work for me. This is my personal preference though and I’m sure many won’t have an issue with it! 😊
Overall, as this is a novella, everything does resolve very quickly/easily but I thought that this was a good first taste of Jenkins’ writing and I really liked it! If you’re looking for a quick read with sensible characters, a delightful romance and an intriguing mystery, I would recommend giving this a try.

Have you read Rare Danger or is it on your TBR?

I haven’t read this one, but I do love her historical romances. Great review, Dini!
