#WWWWednesday: 25 January 2023

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I’ve read three books. Reading has not gone the way I thought it would for me this month and I’m kinda gutted about it. I honestly can’t believe that it’s already the end of January?

(KU) Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend by Penny Reid ★★★☆☆
Eh, this was not what I expected. I spent a whole day reading it cos my brain couldn’t take anything heavier but it wasn’t entirely satisfying. It didn’t give me the same feel as other Reid books and it just felt disjointed and a bit of a mess? I’m sad I didn’t love it more cos I was so looking forward to it. I’m also aware mine might be an unpopular opinion! 🙂

(ARC) Spice Road by Maiya Ibrahim ★★★★☆
I was worried for a minute because I was not having fun with this at the start, mainly because of the main character, but I’m so glad that I persevered. I can’t wait for the next book! My review is going up this Saturday for the blog tour!

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang ★★★★★
This was my first re-read of 2023 and wow, I forgot how amazing this book is but also how incredibly brutal it was. Am I going to be able to write a review for it this time? Probably the most basic review but in a nutshell: HOLY GRANOLA, IT’S A WILD RIDE!

I’ve actually not started reading anything yet but I’m leaning towards either one of these books:

The magic of ✨mood reading✨ means it could be any of these.

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

  1. I felt the same about the beginning of Spice Road but it was nice to see it all pay off at the end. I am so invested and need the sequel lol.

  2. I wonder if how you were feeling had an effect on what you thought of Reid’s book? Or maybe all the hype did? I loved it, but I went in with no expectations. But I also could see how it might feel disjointed. Anyways. I hope your reading week goes better this week.

    • I don’t know what it was. It could’ve been my mood but there was something about it that didn’t entirely work for me. I can’t even blame the hype cos I surprisingly didn’t see much about it when it was released! I wanted to see more of the interaction between them because there was so much time in between where they didn’t see or speak to each other. I think if parts of the middle were shortened so we got to see them spend more time together in NYC, I would’ve enjoyed this more! I did enjoy the angst and tension though…! It’s done *very* well, but I’m sad I didn’t end up loving it!

  3. I’m determined to read The Poppy War this year. So glad you enjoyed the reread! I’m curious to see what you think of Emily Wilde’s. I love fae stories, but from some of the reviews it seems like it might be a touch too slow.

    • Ah, I didn’t know you wanted to read it! You could’ve joined our buddy read. We’re planning to read the next one in a couple of months if you want to try and make it? It’s such a fantastic read and I hope you enjoy it! 😍 I heard Emily Wilde is quite a cosy fantasy and I think that sounds perfect right about now. I hope it’s not too slow though!

    • I can’t wait to continue The Dragon Republic! I think it’s gonna get even wilder. 🤣 I hope you enjoy Emily Wilde whenever you get to read it. I’m hoping to get it read before Jan ends as my first read in the 12 Book Challenge, lol!
