#WWWWednesday: 28 December 2022

It’s the last #WWWWednesday of 2022! Aah!!!

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last week I managed to finish five books. It’s been an incredibly slow reading week because I’ve been in a restless reading mood.

In the Weeds (Lovelight #2) by B.K. Borison ★★★★☆
Everyone, please do yourself a favour and meet my new book boyfriend, Beckett. OML, this man with his not-exactly-himbo-but-himbo lumberbear, plant and animal daddy vibes! Him with his kittens? That duckling? His plants? Him and Evie? All of it—super sweet perfection! *chefs kiss*

The Geek Who Saved Christmas by Annabeth Albert ★★★½
This was a cute low-angst MM holiday romance that was one of the most festive I’ve ever read. I loved that the protagonists were in their 40s and that it highlighted how, despite appearances, it’s not always the happiest time for everyone. Despite being cute though, I found it a little boring at times! [CHECK OUT MY REVIEW!]

Loose Lips Sink Ships Duet (Malicious Compliance & Instant Regret) by E.M. Lindsey ★★★★☆
I picked this up after seeing Chris read it and I wasn’t disappointed. This was an intense and emotional duet featuring two broken people fighting their way back to normalcy after enduring so much pain over the years. Their romance was full of warm, comforting and sweet moments, and their chemistry was great!

Sold to the Demon Prince (Sins of the Blood War #1) by Lauren Crowne ★★★☆☆
Sadly, this one didn’t really work for me. The writing was okay but the characters felt flat and I found the FMC a little irritating with her “not like the others” vibe. I liked the lite world-building and the STEM aspects but the rest of it just wasn’t for me! I’m glad I gave it a try though.

  • (ARC) The Vermilion Emporium by Jamie Pacton → 23% → This is super slow going. I’m not sure if I’ll keep on cos there are things that I’m really not enjoying, like the very instalove and the FMC’s attitude… I’m not really vibing!
  • Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson → 6% → Picked this up on a whim. It’s still early days but I’m intrigued!
  • (ARC) Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert → 4% → Literally just picked this up but this far in I already know I’m going to love it! I’m getting classic Hibbert rom-com vibes and this might be what I needed all along.

Either one of these or probably not cos that’s the magic of ✨mood reading✨ lol…

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

  1. I loved the Truly Devious books. I just got the newest (stand-alone) from the library. Hope to have it on next week’s TBR. I adored Beckett in book 1. Weeds is my current audio, but I have not listened to any of it yet. The kid left today, so I should get started on it

  2. I’m so glad you liked the duet. I finished it this week too, and I liked the second one even more than the first. I’ve never read anything quite like this story. I loved how they built up intimacy despite being separated by a wall, even if it was a bit insta. I just chocked the fast pace of it to them both being desperately lonely. 🤷‍♂️

    • I liked the second one more than the first as well! I thought the author did a great job of building up their relationship and it was unique! I think it only felt a bit insta cos I wasn’t sure how much time was passing between their interactions, but I’ve been thinking about it more after finishing it and I agree, perhaps it felt fast cos they were so lonely and felt so comfortable with each other quickly. It was very comforting though, their connection—warm, soft and sweet! Definitely a great rec 😊
