So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week is a FREEBIE! I chose to look at Books Set In a Place I’d Love to Visit (real places or fictional).

I wasn’t entirely sure whether I was feeling this topic but I wasn’t struck with inspiration for any other one so I decided to go with the flow, take a look at the books I’ve read this year, and see what strikes me! I’ve decided to take a look at both fictional and real places and I’m also taking into account different time periods cos why not? 😉 Maybe some of these aren’t the most original answers, especially some of the real places, but these recent reads have sparked my desire to travel there asap!

FICTIONAL LOCATIONS

Panga – A Psalm for the Wild Built
Thune – Legends & Lattes
Planet Rada – Fated Blades
Kingdom of Aell (post eternal Winter) – Sofi and the Bone Song
The Sijj Palace (preferably not as a human!) – Nura and the Immortal Palace

REAL LOCATIONS

1920s Shanghai (minus the monster) – These Violent Delights
Regency Era – A Lady’s Guide to Fortune-Hunting
West Coast – Bergman Brothers (basically everywhere the Bergman family goes… I’m not a stalker, I swear!)
New York City – Seven Days in June
Ghana – The Kaya Girl

  2. I love your little addendums (post eternal Winter lol). Sofi and the Bone Song is on my TBR anyway, but this makes me even keener. I’d absolutely love to visit Legends and Lattes for a cinnamon roll. I was lusting after them for about a week after reading it lol.

    • Haha, I just had to say. I don’t wanna freeze when I visit that world 😂 I really enjoyed that book so I hope you do too whenever you check it out! And OMG, YES! I want the cinnamon rolls too and a nice cuppa to take along with me. I made cinnamon rolls the morning after finishing the book cos I had such cravings! 🤤

    • Haha, I’ve only been to SD and SF on the West Coast but I definitely would love to visit Portland and Seattle as well! 😍 I’ll definitely make a note to include the Oregon Coast if I come over that side!

      • I haven’t been to SD, but I’ve heard it is lovely. I have been to SF, but it’s been years. It’s fun, busy city. I’m actually headed to Portland this upcoming weekend for my daughter’s soccer tournament. I’m curious to see if it’s as crazy as they have been saying. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there. I would see the Oregon coast over Portland if I had to choose.

        • I spent my 30th birthday there with my family, visiting my dad’s old stomping grounds when he went to uni there way back in the day! 😂 Ooh, I hope you have an amazing time in Portland! Powell’s is on my wishlist of bookstores to visit in my lifetime—I have a feeling I can just get lost in there! I think if I ever make it across the pond, I’d try to cram as much as I can within the timeframe since who knows when I’ll be back next anyway!

  8. Why minus the monster? Just kidding. I would minus any monster too. I don’t know how I feel about different time periods. I feel like I would miss my creature comforts too much and not know how to behave properly

    • Haha, knowing my luck, I’d be dead the minute I set foot outside any establishment 😂 I would definitely miss my creature comforts too but I think I’d visit different time periods for very specific reasons—like I’d love to visit the Regency Era to go to a few balls and maybe a stroll through the Pleasure Gardens? I would probably make a fool of myself one way or another (and I’d definitely stick out anyway cos of my skin)! 😂

  13. I didn’t read any of these yet, though many like These Violent Delights and Seven Days in June are on my TBR. New York and the West Coast both sound like lovely places to visit! I hope you’ll get to visit some day.

    • I’ve visited NYC a few times but after reading Seven Days it made me wanna go back and visit again! I haven’t done much of the West Coast so I think it’d definitely be top of the list if ever I head back over that side. I hope you enjoy TVD and Seven Days whenever you read them 😉

  14. First I want to say I had not heard of A Psalm for the Wild-Built, so just checked it out and added it to my TBR. I have not read any of these books, but I am now checking some of them out. I would love to visit the West Coast, as that is one area of the US that I have not been to yet. You’re brave wanting to go to the Regency Era. With the way women were treated, I will stay in 2022. 😊

    • YAY! That was my first book by Becky Chambers and I absolutely loved it. Monk & Robot are fantastic and if you love that one, the second book has just come out as well (if I’m not mistaken)! 😊 I honestly would just love to do a quick visit to the Regency Era to visit a ball. I mean, I would stick out in every way imaginable and I definitely love my rights now too! 😂

    • Omg, Leslie, I really wanna come visit!!! It’s definitely in my agenda for some time in the not-too-distant future! 😍 And YAY! I hope that you love it. Monk & Robot are so amazing. If you read the first book and want to read the second, lmk, we can read it together 💜 I know we do have Chambers’ other book on our buddy read TBR too, haha

      • I just saw not-too-distant and that’s ALL I saw. 😀 hahahaha. Julie and I are going to be doing everything we can to convince you to come sooner rather than later. HAHA. Yes!! I’m definitely up for that. I’m going to try really hard to squeeze it in but if not how is September for the second?? It’s in my plan. OMG. We had sooo many books on our 20 for summer list that we didn’t even get to. Like the other Becky Chambers. haha. I think once the fall hits, we will have more time. ❤

And yes, September is defo fine for me. August is gonna be a hella busy month! And omg, tell me about it, Leslie! I’m not slaying my 20 books of summer list. I’d definitely still be keen to read the Chambers book too but maybe if not the summer we’ll work around whenever it’s possible for both of us! Fall is gonna be so much chiller 💜

          • YAY!!!!! I’m so excited! Yes, absolutely. We need to find if there’s any cool bookish things in a big city or something when you plan on coming. Then we can go from there and then see if we can get a bunch of us together. Will be so much fun. ❤ Oof- I'm so scared to look at my 20 challenge. I might and see how bad off I am. I know… I have gotten zero of the chunky books I wanted to get to. hahaha. Gosh, I suck! Yes, definitely Chambers but maybe fallish!

  20. The Regency era would be problematic for me for lots of reasons, but it always looks so enjoyable in books and movies. Spending the summer relaxing at an estate in the English countryside having your every whim indulged sounds mighty good (at least for the one being indulged)!

    • I’m sure I would stick out in quite the not-great-way in the Regency Era but the only reason I added it is cos I want to go to a ball. So badly? 😂 As long as you’re on the ‘right side of society’ it’d definitely be breezy relaxing in the countryside being waited on hand and foot!
