20 Books of Summer ’22

At the end of May, Leslie introduced me to the 20 Books of Summer Challenge and she convinced me to join in on the fun since we’re already doing a few buddy reads in the coming month(s). It did look like a lot of fun so I thought why not!?

What is the 20 Books of Summer CHALLENGE?

The 20 Books of Summer Challenge is hosted by Cathy @ 746 Books and it involves choosing and reading 20 books from your TBR and reviewing them all before the summer ends! If at any point you want to change the number of books you read to 10 or 15, can do so. If you want to swap out different books (hello, mood readers!) then that’s okay too. It all sounds pretty simple and straightforward, right? If you decide to join in on the fun too, you can share your choices and your progress using the #20booksofsummer22 hashtag and you can also leave a comment on the announcement post page to link up your post!

20 bOOKS OF SUMMER ’22: THE POSSIBILITY PILE

As an epic mood reader, I’m terrible at sticking to fixed TBRs so I’ve decided to share a strong possibility pile of the 20 books that I really want to read this summer. I will definitely be reading a few of these as they’ll be buddy reads but I’ve included a number of queer books that I really want to read for Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈 (if I can manage) and then keep on going with them until the end of the summer months (if I can’t manage). On that note, here’s what I’m thinking of reading (all book covers linked to their Goodreads page):

The War of Two Queens // Defiant Heart // The Jasmine Throne // Iron Widow

Felix Ever After // On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous // The Dream Thieves // The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet

The Ten Thousand Doors of January // Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating // The Charm Offensive // Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun

Blood and Moonlight // Violet Made of Thorns // You Made A Fool of Death With Your Beauty // Mistborn: The Final Empire

Skyward // The Vanishing Half // Ace of Spades // Winter’s Orbit

Are you also joining the 20 Books of Summer Challenge? What are you planning to read? Have you read any of these books or do you plan to read them for the challenge too? If anyone wants to buddy read anything, I’d love to do one!

  1. I like the “strong possibility” pile haha lots more room for freedom and lots less pressure. Deeefinitely recommending The Charm Offensive, and meanwhile I just DNFd The Vanishing Half. 😅 Not the right mood for it at the moment. Good luck with getting through your 20! This was a good reminder for me to also make my post. xD

    • Haha, I’m such a mood reader, Jennifer! I can’t do any fixed TBRs although a few of these are “fixed” options cos I’ve got buddy reads planned for them lol. I’m really excited to read Charm Offensive cos it sounds so good but I’m bummed to see you DNF’d The Vanishing Half! It defo seems like one you have to be in the right mood for though… Good luck with your 15 as well! Happy reading 😃

  2. I loved the Vanishing Half when I read it a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed seeing the dynamics between the characters and how their relationships unfolded and intertwined. Iron Widow was one of my favorite YA read last year. I had high hopes for The Ten Thousand Doors of January but personally found it underwhelming.

I definitely want to read You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty because I’ve loved every book by Akwaeke Emezi that I’ve read so far, but I’m waiting until a) it’s available at my library and b) I’m a mood to tolerate the intense emotions that come with all of their books.

    • I’ve heard mostly good things about Vanishing Half, Iron Widow and Doors of January although a few mixed reviews pop up here and there. I do feel like I have to be in the right mood to read all of them though but I’m looking forward to it 🙂 I’ve only read one book by Emezi before but I loved their writing and their book hit me so hard in the feels, so I’m pretty excited that I have this one to pick up asap! 😃 I hope your library gets it in soon and that you enjoy it too. Happy reading!

I want to read The Jasmine Throne during the Summer too. The Charm Offensive, Winter’s Orbit, and Violet Made of Thorns have been on my radar. I hope you enjoy all of these! Happy reading, Dini!

    • YAS! I’ll be re-reading Mistborn cos its been ages since I read it the first time although I remember loving it. I’ll be re-reading it with Leslie, who hasn’t finished the series yet so hopefully that’ll make it more fun 😍 I hope you enjoy Jasmine Throne whenever you pick it up and happy reading to you as well! 💜

  5. So many of these books are also on my tbr! But I’ve only read one haha. This sounds like an awesome challenge and I might need to do something similar when ti gets to my summer. I hope that you get to read some of these.

    • Yay for at least reading one! I’ve now read two of them but it’s slow going. Thankfully it’s a longer reading challenge which I enjoy so much more cos there’s less pressure to constantly be on it! 😂 Happy summer reading to you as well!
