#WWWWednesday: 09 February 2022

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

It’s been a pretty good reading week if you see the numbers (11 books) but I only enjoyed less than half of them… I surprisingly read 3 audiobooks while painting and I realise that’s something I’d definitely love to continue doing! 😊

The Dark Side Series (Books 1-4) by Kristy Cunning ★★¾
This was not the series I thought it’d be and I was disappointed! It started off strong but this could’ve easily been a 2-novella series because a lot of it was filler, the explanations nonsensical and I got bored. The series more than lost its spark for me by the end!

The Deep by Rivers Solomon ★★★★½
My first audiobook of 2022 and it was wow! Daveed Diggs’ narration was *chefs kiss*! Check out my review!

Rare Danger: A Novella by Beverly Jenkins ★★★½
Jenkins balances the romance and suspense very well and even though the mystery was a bit outlandish and the romance was very instalove, I still really enjoyed it! The characters are actually very mature and I was here for it!

Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi & Yusef Salaam ★★★★★
This was a punch to the gut? I listened to the audiobook as this is written in verse and Ethan Herisse perfectly captured the depth of emotions that runs through this story! As he speaks it, you have no choice but to feel everything! It’s tough to read but I’d recommend it.

Go Deep by Rilzy Adams ★★★★☆
Phew, talk about steamy 🥵 Navaya and Xander had a great friends-to-lovers romance that had me gripped and had me swooning! Rilzy Adams never fails to make me care about her characters in so short a time and I had so much fun with this story.

Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen Collection: Audible Original) ★★★★☆
I felt like a comfort read so I decided to try this audiobook which has been on my TBR for a while. I enjoyed the performance although it was a bit flat at times but of course, I loved the story! ❤️

Reasonable Doubt Series (Books 1-3) by Whitney G. ★★★☆☆
Sometimes you just feel like a Whitney G. romance and this had been on my TBR for ages so I picked it up at random. This was an office romance with a thin plot and lots of smut and it was entertaining! 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Witch, The Sword, and The Cursed Knights by Alexandria Rogers ★★★☆☆
This took me ages to read and while it was an adventure-filled spin on Arthurian lore, I felt it suffered from trying to do too much at once. My review for the blog tour will go up tomorrow!

A lot has happened over the last two days at home which has made it very tough to focus on anything but I’m finally reading The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna (@39%). I’m buddy reading this with Leslie, and she’s been so patient with my slow progress, lol (thankyou❤️)! The pace is picking up now and I’m really getting into it!

The publisher sent me an eARC for Fake It Till You Bake It yesterday and I fell off my bed in shock! It’s one of my most anticipated romances this year and AAAH 😍

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading, friends! 😍

  1. I got that email for Fake It Till You Bake It and haven’t decided yet. Maybe I should just download it if it’s one of your most anticipated. I’m reading the first book in that Jacqueline Snowe series right now and LOVING IT! I can’t wait for From the Top to release. I didn’t realize that first book has a character from her Moo U book that I read. So fun!

    • It just sounds SO GOOD? I’m admittedly a sucker for all things baking in romance and an even bigger simp for heroes that bake, haha! 😂 Ooh, I was wondering whether to read the first book in the series as well and haven’t decided yet but will be picking up From the Top this weekend 😃 I still haven’t read the Moo U books (I know I should lol) but I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it, Deanna!

    • Yeah, that series is one that I definitely should’ve stopped reading cos it was not… Great 🙈 So disappointing after how much I loved the Mindf*ck series! Go Deep is *defo* the right book to check out for steamy times (though anything by Rilzy Adams would work lol) and I hope you enjoy it—especially after reading Haunting Adeline?! Oof, I’m really not brave enough for that one yet! 😂

    • Yeah, I was pretty bummed by it too cos it started off pretty promising! Ah well, guess we can’t like ’em all 😮‍💨 I do hope I enjoy Fake It Till You Bake It though cos I’ll be sooo bummed if I don’t considering how much I’m looking forward to reading it! 🙈

    • Ngl, I’m quite chuffed with the standouts on here 😍 Some had been on my TBR for ages so I’m glad that I finally picked them up! I don’t have the brain span to listen to audios while working but I’m glad that I found a way that I can listen to them while doing something else! 😂

  2. Audiobooks are so great when you are painting!! Absolutely, no problem with the pacing! My kid is being a terror and not wanting to sleep anymore.. so I’ve been slow too! It’s working out for both of us. ❤ It is picking up though. You've gotten through so many books, even if you haven't enjoyed most of them. We need to get out of this funk because I'm sure it's what is causing us to not like things as much!

    • Yes! They really are 😍 I’m so glad that I’ve been able to listen to some audios while doing that cos it makes me feel doubly productive! LOL. Also, yeah, definitely the mood that’s making it hard to find books enjoyable but hopefully we shake it off this month! I mean, we’ve slowed down a lot compared to January (at least I have anyway), right?! 😂 I hope you all get some good rest soon, Leslie!

      • Yes, omg… I’ve slowed wayyy down. I’m hoping that I hit the right book soon to just change my mood. I haven’t yet! lol. I’m hoping that the new Crescent City book will do it. I”m waiting for it’s arrival today… lol 😀

    • I think it should defo be one of the new required readings just like people were saying about THUG. I ended up speeding through Gilded Ones and really enjoyed it—once the action picks it up it goes wild! I hope you enjoy it whenever you pick it up 😃
