Sundays in Bed With… #MyWeeklyWrapUp

We’re back with another Sundays in Bed With… meme! This meme dares to ask you what book has been in your bed this morning and is hosted by Midnight Book Girl. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed with, or which book you wish you had time to read today!

This Sunday I’ll be tucked in bed with The Wolf and The Woodsman by Ava Reid. I started this last night but didn’t get through much of it before I fell asleep at 15% cos I was so knackered. I did predict something that just happened but I’m really looking forward to what happens next! Also, this is surprisingly gruesome but I’m not overly squeamish but just a quick heads-up if you’re thinking of reading it and you’re squeamish!

In her forest-veiled pagan village, Évike is the only woman without power, making her an outcast clearly abandoned by the gods. The villagers blame her corrupted bloodline—her father was a Yehuli man, one of the much-loathed servants of the fanatical king. When soldiers arrive from the Holy Order of Woodsmen to claim a pagan girl for the king’s blood sacrifice, Évike is betrayed by her fellow villagers and surrendered.

But when monsters attack the Woodsmen and their captive en route, slaughtering everyone but Évike and the cold, one-eyed captain, they have no choice but to rely on each other. Except he’s no ordinary Woodsman—he’s the disgraced prince, Gáspár Bárány, whose father needs pagan magic to consolidate his power. Gáspár fears that his cruelly zealous brother plans to seize the throne and instigate a violent reign that would damn the pagans and the Yehuli alike. As the son of a reviled foreign queen, Gáspár understands what it’s like to be an outcast, and he and Évike make a tenuous pact to stop his brother.

As their mission takes them from the bitter northern tundra to the smog-choked capital, their mutual loathing slowly turns to affection, bound by a shared history of alienation and oppression. However, trust can easily turn to betrayal, and as Évike reconnects with her estranged father and discovers her own hidden magic, she and Gáspár need to decide whose side they’re on, and what they’re willing to give up for a nation that never cared for them at all.

What are you currently reading?

Well, we’re two days into the new year and nothing feels particularly different yet except for the fact that I don’t have work! 😂 We rang in the new year with some of my mum’s siblings and their families at home with lots of food and lots of gaming! I never grew up really knowing my cousins so it was nice to spend time with them as we’re all adults now and are less shy around each other (lol). Turns out, we have lots of things in common and get along really well!

The last week has also been super busy with lots of small gatherings with close friends and family and after spending the last two years at home living my best introverted life, all this socialising has been draining, to say the least. While it’s definitely nice to see my extended family again, and I’m lucky to be able to do so, I’m also more than ready for some quiet time very soon (pls and thanks lol)!

It’s been a fairly quiet week on the blog hopping front and all of the posts that went up in the past week were actually scheduled in advance (pats back—finally, after one year of saying I’ll schedule posts in advance, it happens in the last week of 2021)! 😂 ICYMI, here’s what went up this week:

December Monthly Wrap Up
Mini-Reviews: Steamy Holiday Romances
Book Review: The Plight Before Christmas by Kate Stewart
Book Review: Homecoming King by Penny Reid
#WWWWednesday: 29 December 2021
#TopTenTuesday: Best Books I Read in 2021
Book Review: The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen

I hope you’ve all had a good weekend and that you have a great week ahead! Take care of yourselves and of each other, friends 🖤

  1. Great photo! 😍 We didn’t do anything to ring in the new year but the next day we went to my husband’s mom house and had a lot of fun!
