#WWWWednesday: 31 March

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I had a lot of reading that I should’ve done this past week but I… Really did none of that 😂 I ended up reading one book that I needed to read for tomorrow’s blog tour and that’s basically it out of the 5 books I finished. I can definitely say it has been a weird month for reading and I’m not feeling the weird vibes!

Rogue Protocol (The Murderbot Diaries #3) by Martha Wells ★★½
It felt so good to be back with Murderbot in this book 😍 At this point I would pretty much read anything to do with them? Even though I missed ART’s company in this book, I really liked all the new characters we meet and this is every bit as action packed as the previous books. The ending sets up really nicely for the next one and I can’t wait to find out what happens! Series RTC when Leslie and I finish the books!

Devil’s Playground Duology: The Devil & The Devil’s Advocate by Ashley Jade ★★★ (average)
I don’t even know how I stumbled across these books but I ended up bingeing the duology in less than two days. I’m gonna start by saying this was completely different to any kind of romance/erotica that I’ve ever read, not only in terms of the ‘sex play’ but also the characters. To put it simply, the steaminess was off-the-charts and if you’re looking for a book that keeps it high, this is it! 🥵😂 That said, the characters are all semi- and even full-on psychotic? Plus, there’s a lot of traumatic and completely fcked up situations/relationships, physical and mental abuse, taboo relationships, and plenty of betrayals and twists. Also, angst. A lot of angst! Basically, there’s plenty of hot mess in this book and it’s probably the darkest erotica I’ve ever read (it honestly makes 50 Shades look like child’s play) but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it!

Ranger’s Oath (Fall of Radiance #1) by Blake Arthur Peel ★★★★☆
This was every bit as enjoyable as all the reviews mentioned. I think this won 5th place (?) in the BBNYA 2020 and I can definitely see why it’s on the winner’s list! The characters were authentic and easy to empathise with. Both Zara and Owyn are young and slightly naive but have strong moral compasses and I really enjoyed watching their friendship (and possibly more!) grow throughout the trials they face. The world building was also really well done. I’ve got the series lined up on my Kindle already and I can’t wait to continue it! RTC.

Breathing Underwater by Sarah Allen ★★★★☆
This wasn’t fast-paced but it was a quick read. The author does a really great job in exploring mental health, in such a way that’s realistic but also easy to understand/digest, especially for younger readers (I’d put this at the younger end of YA). It also explores the relationship between two sisters very well and as an older sister, I could see a lot of the dynamics that I have with my sister between these two. It wasn’t exactly a ‘light’ or ‘happy’ read but it is hopeful (and again, realistic) and I would recommend it. My blog tour review will go up tomorrow!

So… I’m supposed to be buddy reading Aurora Burning with Sammie and I started the first chapter but that’s as far I’ve got with it so far. I’m hoping to give it the attention it deserves this weekend though! I’ve also started Pride & Premeditation for an upcoming tour and I’m really enjoying it so far! It’s a very loose take on P&P but I’m loving this murder mystery aspect of it!

Some more blog tours and buddy reads coming up but also who knows what else I’ll be in the mood for! 😂

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍

  1. Sometimes we just need to stumble into unexpected reads like the Devil’s Playground, I haven’t read that duology but I feel you on reading angsty/fcked up stories and bingeing…just because 🤷🏻‍♀️😅. Enjoy your reading!

    • I just finished it today, Leslie, and I did really enjoy it! It took time to get into and I would say that it’s a very loose retelling of P&P but still a lot of fun. I loved the clever ways the author peppered Austen’s iconic lines throughout the book! I was meant to pick up AB today but then ended up not getting around to it 🙈 This weekend though! LOL I hope you’ve had a great week so far!

      • Yeah, it’s definitely a loose retelling but I kind of liked that. I liked the surprises but she did do a great job of having some of the great lines woven in! I am excited that she’s going to keep going with the series and using some of Austen’s other books. I need to read them first though! haha. It’s so bad!! I’ve only read P&P!

        • I’m so excited to read the other books in the series! Though I also kinda wish that Lizzie and Darcy get their own spin-off from this book cos I’d definitely read it (and their romance bloom)! 😍😂

          • YES!! I want Lizzie and Darcy. I am kind of hoping that it will be the same characters just adding in the plot and characters from the next book?!! I can’t wait to know! haha. If not, I’ll be a little sad because I really want more Lizzie and Darcy!
