#TopTenTuesday: Adult Romances by Authors of Colour

So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: Valentine’s Day/Love Freebie

I’ve seen people posting some really fun and creative content for today’s valentine/love freebie and I wanted to do something fun too, but seeing as I have zero ability to plan posts ahead of time, I’ve decided to just share the adult romances by authors of colour that I can’t wait to get my hands on this year. Tied with my love for fantasy, romance is my favourite genre and they make up more than half of the books I read every year. I just love love, y’know? Give me those HEA, the swoony moments, the favourite tropes like friends-to-lovers, the marshmallow soft-on-the-inside heroes, the feisty kick-ass heroines, the delightful banter, explosive chemistry and YES, the *fans self* steaminess!

One goal I have this year is to focus more on romances by authors of colour. I want to be more intentional in picking up diverse romances and I’m glad to see more and more romance by AOC popping up on my radar! This list is a mix of backlist and upcoming releases and I’m so excited to try all of them. Let me know if you have any recommendations–gimme all that good love, please! 😍

(2021) Sweethand
A Girl Like Her
How to Fail at Flirting
A Duke by Default
Love’s Recipe

(2021) The Dating Plan
The King Maker
The Write Escape
Along for the Ride
Ties that Tether

Have you read any of these romances or are they also on your TBR? If you have any recommendations for (adult or YA) romances by AOC please let me know!

      • My favorite Kennedy Ryan books are the Grip series. I would recommend people start there. Kingmaker was good, but there’s just something about that whole Grip series. The prequel, Flow, is free (which would would have to read first anyways) if you want to try her.

    • Ooh, I hope you enjoy it! It sounds so good and I’ve heard good things from ARC reviews already! Also, I keep hearing people say that about How to Fail at Flirting but I haven’t seen much hype for it on the blogosphere. So glad to hear you enjoyed it, Christie 😍

    • Ooh, yes, I do have that on my shelf just waiting to be read and I love that cover so much– every time I see it I want to pick it up (and then, of course, I never do, I’m terrible)! 🙈

  1. Great list, Dini! I didn’t love A Princess of Theory as much as I hoped to, but I’ve heard so many good things about A Duke by Default that I think I need to give it a try. The Dating Plan has such a beautiful cover! I love what you said about being intentional when you pick up romance–I love romance, but I do find myself reading a lot of white romance authors and that’s something I’d like to get better at, too. I hope you enjoy all of these when you get to them!

    • Thanks, Jess! I think I remember your review for A Princess in Theory and feeling on the fence about it but then I read the synopsis for Duke by Default and I was like aah, must read?! 😂 I hope you enjoy it more! I’m such a sucker for a good romance cover and The Dating Plan is one of my faves. The colors! The illustrations! I’m a goner lol I hope you enjoy whichever ones of these you check out 😊

  2. The Dating Plan made my list too. 😍 I’ve only read The Kingmaker. Kennedy Ryan is a queen! I love Talia Hibbert too. I have Alyssa Cole’s thriller When No One is Watching to read and I definitely will check some of the authors you included, Dini. 🧡

    • I still haven’t read anything by Kennedy Ryan but I keep hearing about her books everywhere–especially this series, so I know I have to check her out soon. I have a feeling that her books are quite angsty though and I think maybe that’s why I put them off? I don’t know. Am I wrong? LOL I have Cole’s thriller on my TBR too and I can’t wait to check it out! I hope you enjoy it, Andie! ❤️
