#WWWWednesday: 03 February

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

Since last Wednesday I’ve finished five books and had my first DNF of 2021 (not included here). My goal this year is to continue DNFing books that aren’t doing it for me instead of letting my guilt push me to keep reading something that I’m really not enjoying, so I’m proud that I managed to put this goal into action so early on in the year! 😂

Deadly Dreams (Fortuna Sworn #4) by K.J. Sutton ★★★☆☆
After ending book two feeling mad let down, I didn’t have big hopes for this book but it was better. I really enjoyed certain aspects of it, such as how Fortuna’s trauma was dealt with (for the most part) but I’m kinda tired of the story cos it keeps going around in circles and I feel like we still get no answers. There were more “political fae games” in this story, which also meant a lot more brutality and murders, which did keep it ‘interesting’ (lol) but I’m truly over the love-triangle/square/whatever vibes. I will say that the ending surprised me and for that alone I will be continuing on with the series because my curiosity has been piqued! Will share a series review soon.

White Trash Warlock (The Adam Binder Novels #1) by David R. Slayton ★★★★½
This book was a smol step outside my comfort zone because I’m The Ultimate Chicken™️ but I ended up absolutely loving it and can’t wait for the next book in the series. Adam Binder is a wonderful protagonist and you can’t help but root for his happiness and success. Check out my review!

The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady by Virginia Heath ★★★★☆
This was a different historical romance compared to the ones that I usually read but I really enjoyed it! Despite a slow pace, I loved Faith and Piers’ slow burn enemies-to-lovers romance. I liked watching them learn to let their guard down and learn to trust and love again through a sweet courtship, witty banter and biting humour. Their chemistry was also undeniable! Check out my review!

The Death of Honor (Honor Trilogy #1) by Lyra Thorsson ★★★☆☆
This space opera/sci-fi romance was a bit of a mixed bag for me and I’m struggling to articulate my thoughts on it. The female lead, Rebecca, was an intriguing morally grey character and her ARC is definitely the one that intrigues me the most. The plot was also different to anything I’ve read before and it goes down quite a dark and disturbing route. That said, the world building was really lacking and it took a really long time for me to really get into the story because we get plunged into what seems to be the “middle” of the story and don’t get much more context as the story continues. RTC tomorrow!

The Deal (Off-Campus #1) by Elle Kennedy ★★★★
Kennedy is one of the romance names that I see mentioned everywhere so I’m glad to finally have read one of her books! This was a fun easy and very entertaining sort-of-friends-to-lovers romance that was full of cheeky sarcastic banter and good ole steaminess! I loved Hannah and Garrett (although he was initially too douchey for my liking) and the way their relationship grows is so realistic. Hannah was a really likeable heroine and I became a big fan of Garrett by the end! RTC.

Since I finished my last read in the early hours this morning while losing a battle with insomnia, I’m currently not reading anything… I do have book two in the Off-Campus series, The Mistake, all lined up and ready to read tonight though (and unrelated to actually reading the book but I’m so tired of seeing half-naked dudes on covers 😂)! I think I’ll also pick up Bad Habits soon. I’ve been seeing so many positive reviews for this book as the blog tour has already kicked off so I’m even more excited to read it.

I’m quite excited to be starting a couple buddy reads this month! I’ll be reading The Switch with Leslie next week and the following week I’m going to start my re-read of Aurora Rising with Sammie and then we’re gonna continue straight to Aurora Burning 😍

What’re you currently reading? Have you read any of these books or are they also on your TBR? Happy reading! 😍

  1. The title of White Trash Warlock legit just made me cackle with glee. I’ve never heard of it but I’m curious to check it out now.
I really struggle with officially DNFing a book…I put a lot of books aside because I’m not feeling them in the moment but I usually EVENTUALLY come back and read them if only because I’m too curious to not know how they end. But to actually say, “Nope, I’m never finishing this one” is tough unless it’s really bad.

    • Haha, I know what you mean! The title is what definitely piqued my interest at first and it was SUCH a great read! I would highly recommend it 😍 I also struggle with DNFing and I’m still “waiting” too long before I put a book down and it’s such torture cos the dread is super real! 😂 Baby steps though… I’m learning to really love the feeling I get after deciding that a book isn’t for me and putting it down. I still do feel guilty sometimes but the weight off my shoulder is a million times nicer! LOL

  2. Ugh… DNF… why is it such a struggle?!? Lol! I think you’ve had a pretty great reading week. I have been seeing good reviews for Bad Habits! I didn’t join the tour bc I wasn’t sure I would like it but I might have to pick it up now! Yay!! I am excited for our buddy read!! I can’t wait to read that book too. I hope you are having a great week, Dini! 🤗💕

    • The struggle is very, very real, Leslie! I’m still really bad at it cos I usually end up waiting until I’m at that point where I *really* can’t stand it before DNFing but… baby steps, right? 😂 I hope I end up enjoying Bad Habits as much as everyone else! It is definitely getting a lot of praise 😃 Hope you’re having a great week too, Leslie! ❤️

      • Yes! Baby steps.. I’m still the same. It’s so hard bc I keep thinking.. it will get better.. until it doesn’t and you wasted so much time on it!! So many books and so little time is what we need to remember! 😂

  3. YES!!!!!!!!!!!! The Deal! That’s one of my all-time favorite series. I’m so happy you’re reading and enjoying them so far. I actually like their original abs covers. I have them in paperback. Haha. You probably prefer the new covers with the girls on them then. I actually am tired of illustrated covers.

    • Omgoodness, I really loved Garrett and Hannah! They’re SO sweet together 😍 Garrett absolutely won me over big time by the end. I was melting! Haha I just finished book two in that series and I LOVED Logan. I’m a little nervous about the next book in the series cos I’m not really sold on the guy (Dean) but let’s see how it goes! LOL I mean, the abs covers aren’t hard to look at but I’m tired of seeing abs everywhere 😂🙈 I’m the opposite right now with the illustrated ones! Haha

    • I just finished book two in the series and I have to say it’s SO worth it! I think I might have loved it even more than The Deal? Our H/H were wonderful characters. I’m really liking the level-headedness of Kennedy’s female leads and the very low-drama between the women in the story! I think you should definitely continue with it 😉 Haha

  4. I read Aurora Rising and really enjoyed it. Haven’t read the second one yet. And The Viscounts Unconventional Lady sounds good! I’ve been loving historical romances lately! I’m currently reading The Stolen Kingdom. It’s pretty good so far. 🙂 Hope you enjoy your reads!

    • I loved Aurora Rising too but I wanted to reread it before diving into the second book. I’m quite excited 😍 I’m definitely with you about the historical romance mood lately. I’m still stuck on romantasies/contemporary romances, but I’m keen to read more historical ones! Hope you’re continuing to enjoy your reads as well, Julie!

  5. I hope you enjoy your books! Aurora Burning is seriously fantastic but also be ready for all of the feelings, haha. Enjoy your reread of Aurora Rising!

    • Haha, knowing these two authors I’m most likely definitely NOT ready for it 😂 I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next but I’m also terrified especially after ALL THE THINGS that happened in book one! LOL, I’ve finished the Off-Campus series now and I can’t decide which is my favourite. I think it might be the first book actually!
