Being sisters is never easy. But when you’re as different as Sarah, Cassiopeia, and Lucille, it’s even harder! The first is haunted by recurring dreams, the second lives with her head in the clouds, and the last spends most of her time with her cat. Then one day they discover a mysterious photo of their mother pregnant. Where was it taken, and who is the baby? And most importantly, why was this photo hidden away in the depths of the attic? The thing that immediately caught my eye with this graphic novel was the artwork on the cover. It reminded me of this comic series called W.I.T.C.H that I used to absolutely adore when I was younger. The art style was very much similar to that comic and I absolutely loved it! It as whimsical and full of magic, and it was definitely the highlight for me in this story! If you’re a fan of this kind of art, you’ll definitely find this comic very pleasing to the eye. I thought the illustrations of each sister also perfectly reflected their personalities, all the way from how they’d dress, style their hair, but especially their facial expressions. I think the drawings really brought the characters to life!

The story turned out to be quite different than what I expected and in a way, it can really stand on its own rather than as part of a series. I thought there would more of a magical or whimsical element to it, so that was a little disappointing, but it was still an interesting storyline. As a result of the mysterious recurring dream Sarah has about jellyfish in a forest, ending up in her mother’s room, the sisters embark on a quest to learn more about their mother’s past.

The dynamic between the three sisters was very believable. There are moments you get along and other moments when you swear you hate each other and don’t ever want to talk to them again. Of the three, Cassiopeia was probably the sister closest to my heart–a dreamer and a hopeless romantic. But as the youngest, Lucille and her love for cats was the most adorable. Her face was such pure innocence and sweetness! That said, I wished that we learned more about them. For starters, basic information like their age, where they live, etc. would’ve been nice to set up the story, if it’ll be part of a series. As for the mystery of the dream itself, I was able to very quickly guess what it meant but it was still enjoyable to watch unfold for the sisters, and I think the story wrapped up very nicely. Looking forward to seeing what comes next for the Grémillet Sisters 😉
