#WWWWednesday: 09 September

Hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words, which means I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

I’ve managed to finish six books since last Wednesday. I guess you can say that I’ve been reading a lot lately and from looking at the books I’ve read, I guess you can also say my moods have been swinging pretty wildly. From romance to fantasy to middle grade fiction… I’m a little all over the place! 😅

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune ★★★★★
You might’ve seen me gushing about this book on Twitter and Instagram because this is hands down one of my favourite reads in 2020! This book was just… magical. It was a gem and it was the most perfectly soothing balm for my weary 2020 heart. I don’t know what else to say except that I highly recommend it! But you can also read my review! 😉

The Beast and The Bethany by Jack Meggitt-Phillips ★★★½
This was a really entertaining MG read that really reminded me of the joy I felt reading Roald Dahl’s books as a child! I loved how the relationship between Bethany and Mr. Tweezer transformed them, and it was all thanks to the evil doings of the Beast. Bethany and Tweezer were very similar in so many ways but through their scheming, they somehow managed to bring out the best in each other, and had a good lesson on kindness and family. Review to come!

A Golden Fury by Samantha Cohoe ★★★☆☆
It’s been a few days since I finished this review and I’m still not really sure how I feel about it because I did enjoy the historical and alchemical aspects to the story–it gave me (smol) YA Discovery of Witches vibes with the setting. I did enjoy it well enough to read it in a little over one day but I wished the pacing and character development was done better. Plus there were also some plot holes that had me going *hmm* 🤔 at times, so I’m on the fence. Review to come!

The Anti-Boyfriend by Penelope Ward ★★★☆☆
It’s been a while since I’ve read Penelope Ward but this was pretty “standard fare”. I feel like if you’ve read a few of her books, you’ll see they’re pretty formulaic: nothing new and no surprises. That said, it was still enjoyable for what it was. A neighbourly friends-to-lovers romance that had a good dose of steaminess (3.5/5 on the steamy scale) and cute/charming moments with a baby. Review to come!

Big Bad Cowboy (Once Upon a Time in Texas #1) by Carly Bloom ★★★☆☆
I was kind of surprised that I picked this up because in the romance/erotica genre, this one is a bit “outside” of what I normally pick–basically, I can’t recall ever reading a cowboy romance. It was definitely entertaining though! 😂 Even if they were far from perfect characters, I did like Maggie and Travis, and their chemistry was enjoyable. Plus, it also got surprisingly steamy (3.5/5 on the steamy scale)–although I don’t know why it was surprising based on the cover and title. Review to come!

Someday in Paris by Olivia Lara ★★★½
This book is for the really hopeless romantics out there. The ones who love love and the idea of soulmates and fate. The ones who thrive on the angst and agony of longing, and the ones who yearn and hope for that HEA no matter how hopeless a situation might feel. I had some issues with this book but ultimately, despite my head’s attempts at trying to put me off the book, my heart was just too invested in the romance. Oh, the feelings. So. Many. Feelings! Review is up tomorrow!

I’m currently reading The Year Shakespeare Ruined My Life. I’m finding it a bit difficult to get into because the MC is really getting on my nerves. I’m hoping that she becomes more tolerable as the book goes on but it’s really not looking so great right now. I also started The Extraordinaries this weekend but have only got through about 15% of it until now. I’m prioritising my blog tour reads right now but will get back to it once I’m done!

Blog tour reads are going to be my main focus in the coming weeks but I’m also looking forward to reading whatever else I feel like at the time. My mood have been absolutely wild lately so I’m pretty much just winging everything that’s not a blog tour read 🤣

How is your reading week going and what are you currently reading? Hope the rest of your week goes well!

    • Haha I have been tucking away these books lately because I’ve been doing little to nothing else 😅 I mean, outside of work of course! I really hope you check out The House in the Cerulean Sea because the hype–it’s so real! 😍

    • Six a week doesn’t happen all the time but I’ve been really retreating into books lately. I’ve only read one Klune book but if his others can make me feel the same way, he’s definitely going to be an auto-buy author! Hope you have a great week as well 🙂

  1. Ohh, I can’t wait to see what you think of The Extraordinaries! I kind of just want to go on a TJ Klune binge!! Although, I’m worried that I won’t like them as much as Cerulean Sea! haha.

  2. How do you read that many books in one week? That’s incredible! I’m lucky if I read one. Also, I’ve seen The House in the Cerulean Sea around a lot and have heard some really good things about it! Maybe that’s an indication that I need to read it.
