#TopTenTuesday: Books I’ve Forgotten on my TBR…

So, we’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: Books that I’ve added to my TBR and forgotten why (stolen from Louise @ Foxes and Fairytales)!

At first I wasn’t sure how to answer this prompt despite how straightforward it is but then I realised that I was unnecessarily complicating things for myself and when I thought that, everything fell into place really quickly 😂 For this prompt, I’m looking specifically at my Goodreads ‘Want-to-read’ list which is currently… a whopping… 1.1k+ books. *COUGH* Yep. That’s insane, right? It really is. It does make me feel better to say that I don’t actually own all these books but because my list is so long, there are undoubtedly plenty that I don’t remember! With my goldfish memory it’s also not surprising that I’ve found more recent adds that I don’t remember adding too 😅 But before I ramble on even further, let’s get to it!

Although these books have been picked randomly, my list was sorted to ‘ascending’ so it turns out that all of these were added between 2017-2018, and I have absolutely no memory of even coming across some of these books let alone ‘wanting-to-read’ them 🙃

Super Sad True Love Story love this title!
The Book of Lost Thingslove this cover!
The Red Tentsounds quite ominous?
The Twelve-Mile Straighti have no idea what this sounds like…
Good Morning, Midnightdefo getting those sci-fi vibes + loving this cover!

Before the Fallthis is definitely a mystery/thriller, right?
Be Frank with Mesounds like a really quirky/funny read!
Lost Dogs and Lonely Heartsi’m simple – i see dog on cover and in title, i add book!
The Somnambulist’s Dreamshonestly wasn’t even sure I’d be able to pronounce somnambulist!
Strawberriesis it just me or does that leaking strawberry look a lottle like blood?

A lot of these look really interesting so I’m going to go back and read the synopses and see if I should still keep them on my 1k long list or not! Have you read any of these? Worth keeping or nah?

  1. And I thought my 800+ TBR list was out of control! I recently deleted all the books I’d added for competitions and because “oh look at that cover” or someone else said it was good. My TBR mainly consists of back lists of authors I currently love, books I’ve bought and not read yet (and that makes up far too much of the list), along with freebies that I may read.
Great post AND choice of books.

  2. ONE THOUSAND BOOKS ON GOODREADS WANT TO READ SHELF?!??! How do you cope??? 😀 I have 30ish and already think it’s 15 too many. Lol

I have to be honest, I’ve never heard about any of these books. Lol But I love the sound of Good Morning, Midnight. 😀

  3. I haven’t read The Red Tent but I did watch the tv series they made from it and I liked that. I did read Before the Fall and I thought it was good, I gave it 4 stars. I did go into this blind and I started reading it on vacation, while I was on a plane. I had no idea it was about a … PLANE CRASH! hahaha. :-p I have my Goodreads “to-read” list down to just under 400. I desperately need to clean it out and this week has show me that! haha

  4. 1,100+ books?! I mean, I get it, because I used to add anything and everything to my shelves on Goodreads, but 1,100 is a new level of impressive. The only one of these that I’ve read is The Book of Lost Things. All these years later, a lot of the details are fuzzy, but the ending has always stuck with me.

    • Hahaha I guess impressive is one way to look at it. I’m honestly a little embarrassed. It’s so easy for me to hit that “want to read” button 🤣 To be fair though a lot of them were added several years ago and I clearly really don’t remember a lot of these adds so I need to go through and delete! 😂 Ooh, I’m hoping that means The Book of Lost Things left a good impression?

      • Well, they make that little green button on Goodreads such an easy click! But there’s something really relieving about going back and deleting books you know you’ll never get around to—and you find so many forgotten gems that way, too. And definitely! I remember really enjoying The Book of Lost Things.

  5. I have The Book of Lost Things on my tbr, too! And I have read Before I Fall. I thought it was really good. I think I gave it four stars. And maybe you’ll remember that I went through a deep cleaning of my Goodreads Want to Read list recently, getting it from 1000 to 800?? Well, it’s back at 1000. In just a few months. Ha! It’s ridiculous. But, yes, like you said, these are not all books I own, but mostly books I just see and am interested in. I also have a shelf marked ‘interested’ so I’ll know the difference between the ones I hard-core want to read and the ones I just added in passing. It’s a problem. 😉

    • Ooh okay, that’s interesting! I have no idea how I came across Before I Fall (or all of these books honestly) but I’m glad to hear some people comment saying they’ve read some of these and enjoyed them 😀 Yes, I remember you saying you did the cleanse and I still need to do that too!! Haha at least you know that you can get it back down to 800 at some point in the future, right?! 😉 I should properly sort my GR TBR too… So many things to do… So little time to be organised?! Haha

  6. Dini I’m jealous of your TBR. Mine is just over 800. I feel I’m slacking. Must go stalk your bookshelves and get adding 😂😂😂 As I said earlier READ THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS! Oof that book is just sooo good. It’s creepy but not too creepy so perfect for the ultimate chicken TM…… 😂😂😂😂 well if this chicken read it I think you can too lol 😆 I’ve also read that Lucy Dillon book. Funnily enough for the same reason. I saw the word dog and was like oh you’re coming home from the library with me. It was perfectly nice. I always like Lucy Dillon’s books. They’re always well plotted with good characters and invariably make me feel better. I think they’re kinda like a warm hug in book format. ☺️☺️☺️💛💚❤️

    • Hahaha I’m trying to get mine down to 800, Emer! Switchies?! 😂 Honestly, I have to do a proper culling but I keep slacking off on it because there’s just never enough time to have a proper sit down to do it! LMAO I’m so glad you said that about The Book of Lost Things coz I had no idea it was creepy??? But I’m glad it’s just the right creepy for Ultimate Chicken™️ HAHAHA oh, your messages always crack me up. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I don’t remember ever hearing Lucy Dillon’s name before so no idea how I came across this book. But perfectly nice sounds…. Nice? LOL warm hugs are always nice so I’ll definitely take that positive 🤣

  7. I read The Red Tent many years ago and actually want to reread it. It isn’t ominous at all from what I remember, though – it’s about women in biblical times!

    • I have to admit that I still didn’t properly read the blurbs for these books when making this list so I need to go back and do that 😂 I guess if you want to re-read it that means you enjoyed it? 🙂

  8. I do this all the time- adding books that later I have no idea why I did! I do remember wanting to read Good morning, Midnight a few years back, but I never did…

    • HAHA I’m flaming with embarrassment. It is true… So very true. I need to have a proper clean up of my GR TBR 🤣 It will happen… At some point… So… Yes, I’m going to keep telling myself it’s okay 🤣

  9. I don’t think I’ve heard of any of these books!
Also, I don’t even look at my ‘want to read’ much on goodreads, it’s mainly there for when I’m in a book buying mood and I’m like ‘what am I in the mood for?’ LOL! 😀

    • Funnily enough, neither have I, Lisa! Haha but apparently they’re on my TBR so it’s clear that I need to do a really proper clean up of my list on GR. I also probably need to cool off on hitting that ‘want to read’ button so easily 🤣 I also rarely look at the list to be honest… I do check when I’m at the store and come across a book I’m not sure I’ve heard of or not… But otherwise this list is just kinda… There? Haha

  10. Great post! Those poor lost and forgotten books. *pets them* I wish I could help you but I haven’t read or heard of any of them. But going by cover Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts looks really sweet and interesting. Good luck with 1.1k TBR, holy wow that is a lot! 😛

    • Haha it really really is a lot *embarrassed* but I need to work on cleaning it up… Coz as this post clearly indicates… I don’t remember a lot of what I’ve added from a few years back so I think I might even be able to get it down to below 1k?! Here’s to hoping 😉
