Top 5 Saturday: Books Under 300 Pages

We’re back with another Top 5 Saturday! Just in case you don’t know Top 5 Saturday is a weekly meme created by Mandy @ Devouring Books and it’s where we list the top five books (they can be books on your TBR, favourite books, books you loved/hated) based on the week’s topic. You can see the upcoming schedule at the end of my post 🙂 This week’s topic is: books under 300 pages.

This was a lot harder than I anticipated because I thought I’d have a lot more books that were less than 300 pages but a lot of them are more under the 400 page mark. After a bit of searching I did find a few on my actual TBR. I don’t actually have a preference for book lengths, it really all depends on the content. If a book is great I’ll likely never want it to end but when it’s the opposite, even less than 300 pages sounds like too much! I also generally don’t pay much attention to details such as page numbers, so I’m surprised by a few of the ones on here. I definitely thought they’d be longer!

209 pages

I feel like This Is How You Lose the Time War has been featuring on quite a few of my lists lately or maybe that’s just my mind constantly conjuring it up because I want to read it soon?!

272 pages

I stumbled on Somebody Told Me through Twitter. Someone said it was available as Read Now on NetGalley, so of course I had to check it out! I don’t know why I thought this would be longer but the fact that it’s shorter makes me want to pick it up sooner (and I have to anyway lol)!

173 pages

I almost forgot about Every Heart A Doorway. The title and cover caught my attention and it’s the same for the other books in the series. I really hope that I love this so I can have a reason to add the other books to my physical shelf too 😂 I’ll be buddy reading this next month and I’m keen!

144 pages

I have literally seen this series EVERYWHERE lately. The hype around Murderbot is real and because of FOMO I went ahead and bought All Systems Red as soon as I could. I’ve heard really great things about this book but I’m actually surprised it’s as short as it is! Curious…

146 pages

I’ve heard very mixed things about Elevation. Actually, I hear very mixed things about all King books but this one especially. The cover is what caught my eye and knowing what it’s about has me curious to know how it all ties in. It’s so short too!

Upcoming Schedule:

What books under 300 pages do you have on your TBR? Any favourites that are under 300 pages? Recommendations welcome!

  1. I’ve not heard of Elevation. May have to check it out. Same goes for Murderbot Diaries.

If you’ve not tried The Builders by Daniel Polansky and like the idea of Hyperviolent Animals using weapons etc … then I’d highly recommend it. My favourite less than 300 page book to date.

    • Have been seeing Murderbot everywhere and I’m really intrigued coz everyone seems to love it! I’m also loving that it’d be quite a short read lol Also… Hyperviolent animals using weapons!? What a freaking concept and I’m totally sold 😂 I’ve never heard anything like that before, so I will definitely check it out! Thanks for the recommendation 😀

    • Right? I was actually really shook when it arrived in the mail because it was in this teeny tiny package and I was like what on earth did I order that’s that small?! 🤣 It should be a bigger incentive for picking it up sooner! Haha

  2. Every Heart a Doorway made my list too! I really want to read it. I’ve heard such amazing things about this series and I love Seanan McGuire. I also got a copy of This is How You Lose the Time War a while back and I should totally read it because it’s so short! I love when you can read a book in a sitting.

    • I can’t wait to read it! I’ve never read anything by this author before but the series has received a lot of love, so I’m definitely curious. And these covers 😂 I’m a total sucker for them! Haha I love that Time War is as short as it is. I hope that I enjoy it since I usually have a hard time connecting to shorter stories, but I do love finishing a book in one go 😉

      • I love when I can read a good book in one sitting. Always feels really good. Seanan McGuire has some serious talent and this is her most popular series so obviously we should all read it.

    • I adore all the covers in that series! I’m just hoping that I feel the same about the content itself 😂 I’ve been seeing Murderbot everywhere lately and it’s making me feel FOMO so I’m definitely curious especially since everyone seems to love it haha

    • I do love a good short book too. I mean, who doesn’t love being able to read more because the books are shorter, right?! 😂 Haha I totally get what you mean–I love the feeling of finishing a book in one day. Makes me feel so accomplished 🤣 I’ve heard some mixed reviews about Elevation, but that cover gets me every time! Very curious. Thanks, Alex! ❤

  3. I’m pretty sure my beloved Catcher in the Rye is under 300 pages. Definitely recommend that. Or maybe not cos you’ll probably end up hating it seeing as we are so opposite lol 😂💛💚💜🧡
