Friday Favorites: Books That Make Me Thankful to be A Reader

It’s time for another Friday Favorites hosted by Kibby @ Something of the Book! This weekly meme is where you get to share a list of all your favourites based on the list of prompts on Kibby’s page. Sounds fun, right? This week’s prompt is: favorite books that make me thankful to be a reader. So… This is a really tough prompt to answer! I find the idea of narrowing it down to a small list so daunting because obviously there are gonna be loads of amazing favorites that don’t show up below. I think almost every book I’ve read has left a part of itself with me that makes me thankful to be a reader. There are just too many books to name one-by-one but I’m only going to name five below. I’ve learned and experienced so many different thoughts and emotions while reading all of these books. Forever thankful!

harry potter series
This book is probably going to be on so many lists but I will never forget the first time that I dove into the world of Harry Potter. I remember it so clearly and I remember being completely swept away by this magical world that Rowling created for us. I may not have re-read the book countless times and neither am I a huge part of the fandom, but it was the first series that really introduced me to fantasy and there was no looking back 😍

a little life
A Little Life will not be for everyone and I can completely understand why. It’s one of the most emotionally devastating, intensely depressing books I’ve ever read in my lifetime, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hit me so hard in the feels because of how much I related to so much of what the characters go through. I’ll never forget this book!

THE shadow of the wind
I was completely blown away by how much I loved this book. I haven’t had the best track record when it comes to magical realism, especially with Spanish authors, but wow. I was so happy to be proven wrong with this one! I was so sucked into the story telling that kept me on my toes the whole way through. Not to mention Zafon’s beautiful and incredibly lyrical way of writing. I’m so glad this was translated into English so we could experience its magic!

american gods
Neil Gaiman is… truly incredible. American Gods might not be my favorite book of his (that’s Neverwhere!) I loved American Gods a lot! I was very quickly sucked into Shadow Moon’s reality, and I loved how Gaiman creates stories for another side to our world that’s filled with darkness, magic, and so many gods. Amazing!

saga series
Not only did this graphic novel make me appreciate a wonderful story coming to life, but the artwork–wow, the artwork! It set the bar high for me when it comes to graphic novels. I was blown away by the whole package and I’m so glad that I came across this series and decided to read it on a whim!

Who favorite books make you thankful to be a reader?

  1. “A little life” is going on my list! I’ve been in the mood to read something sad. Also, I think the Percy Jackson series is to me what the Harry Potter series is to you.

    • YAY! It’s an amazing book but it is also… incredibly sad! And… there really should be some trigger warnings because it is quite emotionally intense. I do hope you enjoy it though! Ooh, I still haven’t read Percy Jackson but I have heard lots of great things about it. It’s amazing how powerful these books can be when you start reading them at such a young age, eh?

    • Haha I’m really not surprised so many people have said HP! I’m not the biggest fan girl of it, I do like it, but it was my first intro into the world of fantasy and it was AMAZING! I think it really does something for those who read it when they were really young and it first came out!

      • Yeah, I definitely agree! I’m just now reading it as an adult and it’s good but not what I was expecting 😅

    • Haha fair enough, Emer! You’re surprisingly not the first person I know who hasn’t read that series yet. But I remember the first time I did and wow, it just took me away! Lol And YES, Shadow needs to be more well-known because it’s just simply amazing 😍
