#TopTenTuesday: Books on my Autumn Possibility Pile!

It’s that time of the week again, friends! We’re back with another Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is: books on my Autumn Possibility Pile! I recently did a similar-ish post for my Friday Favorites, where I listed some TBR reads that suited the Autumn mood! As you’ll know by now, I’m a mood reader so I’m not much for TBRs or seasonal reading. That said, I usually do like to think about books I wanna read over the course of a month if the mood strikes, and I like to think of it as my ‘possibility pile‘! I think of Autumn as going from September – November but I could also be completely wrong as I’ve lived in the tropics basically my whole life (and Australia saw six years of opposite seasons, plus I experienced two extremely warm fall seasons living in the UK so ‘autumn’ only showed towards mid-November/early Dec). A lot of what I’m thinking to read leans to the darker/spookier reads (for me anyway!), sprinkled with some lighter contemporaries and SFF!

The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones. Even though I’m the biggest chicken and really can’t handle much ghosty-paranormal shtuff, I went out and immediately pre-ordered the book after reading Kibby’s review. It’s outside of my norm but it sounds so good and perfect for October!

Darkdawn (The Nevernight Chronicle #3) by Jay Kristoff. I’m not ready for this series to end but I also don’t think that I can put it off for longer. Kristoff’s going to crush my soul either way, so I might as well get the #stabstabstab over with, right?! This series full of darkness, blood and gore has really grown on me and I’m TERRIFIED for how this’ll end. I actually haven’t seen any reviews yet 🤔

Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove #1) by Shelby Mahurin. I’ve really only heard amazing things about this book and it honestly sounds really good. Also, apparently there’s no cliffhanger?! I’m definitely looking forward to reading this and not putting it off forever 🙂

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig. This book has received so much love, even by readers who don’t normally read YA or gothic tales, which makes me all the more excited to read it!

Skyward (Skyward #1) by Brandon Sanderson. The second book in this series comes out on 26 November, and I’ve been telling myself that I haven’t been neglecting this book on my shelf, I’ve just been waiting for the perfect moment to read it 😜 The time has come!

Wicked Saints (Something Dark & Holy #1) by Emily A. Duncan. This was one of the more hyped YA releases earlier this year and I’ve heard so many mixed reviews for it. I’m getting the impression that you either loved/hated it, with little in between. I just got approved for the e-ARC of Ruthless Gods last week though, so I’m VERY EXCITED for this perfectly dark, possibly wicked, Autumn read!

The Toll (Arc of a Scythe #3) by Neal Shusterman. This has already appeared in several of my posts recently but honestly, I can’t wait. I’m SO READY to see what happens next and to see how this fantastic dystopian series will end!

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo. The colors of this cover match perfectly with the season! But in between all of these darker reads I know I’ll need something lighter to make me a little less melancholy. I think this book will give me the warm fuzzies, and I love books with cooking/food!

Twice in A Blue Moon by Christina Lauren. I am so excited for this book which releases 22 October. I still haven’t read a few of the CLo books on my shelf *cough* but this one sounds mega sweet!

Malamander by Thomas Taylor. I don’t often read MG but the cover on this one had me picking it up almost immediately 😬 I’ve heard some really great things about it too so I’m keen!

What’s on your Autumn Possibility Pile/TBR?
If you’ve done a TTT for today, please leave your links in the comments so I can mosey over to your blog and check it out! 🙂

    • Thank you! Have you read Wicked Saints and did you enjoy it? There are quite a few of Sanderson’s books I haven’t read but I’m really looking forward to reading Skyward. Have heard great things! 😊

  1. Oooh, I like the idea of a “possibility pile” rather than a TBR! I’m totally stealing that word. xD I feel like I can do a possibility pile, but I can never do TBRs lol.

Congrats on getting approval for Ruthless Gods! How exciting. 😀 I’ve been meaning to read Wicked Saints. I bought it because I just couldn’t wait, but then like you said, you either love it or hate it and I want so much to love it so now I’m afraid.

I need to read Darkdawn, but it won’t be until the end of the year, probably. Either my library will get it in (and I’ll immediately shove everyone else out of the way and snatch it) or I’ll get it for Christmas. Either way.

Oh nooo. For some reason, I was thinking the sequel to Skyward was coming out early next year. Well. I should read that one, too. Way to just pile things on my own “possibility pile,” probably just out of spite. 😛

    • Yaaas, Sammie! Possibility Piles are the way to go 😍 I know it’s the wording that makes all the difference, but it’s so much less pressure to my little brain compared to a TBR! Haha I’m constantly adding/removing books from my possibility piles as the month goes on, but definitely add Skyward to yours! I’m hoping that we both love it!

I was so shocked and amazed that I got approved for Ruthless Gods! Makes me even more excited for Wicked Saints, although I’m still trying to keep my expectations low coz like you, I’m scared. 😂 Never thought I’d get approved for one of the more ‘popular’ book series/authors though! Haha

Have you read Nevernight and Godsgrave yet? Now that I’ve finished Godsgrave I really can’t wait for Darkdawn but I’m really terrified of the feels. Especially after that Godsgrave ending. Damn, Kristoff and his fckery with my feels! Hahaha Ooh, I hope you get it for Xmas! That’d be the best 😃

      • I’m sure we will! Or I will, at least. I’ve never read a Sanderson book I didn’t like so far. xD

It’s so much pressure, isn’t it?! It’s like you won some secret lotto that you weren’t prepared for and now you’re like … oh my gosh.

I haven’t! But guess what came into my library this week and I ninja grabbed it off the sheeeeeelf. ❤ We got Darkdawn. I was so surprised. So I'm thinking that next week, I'm gonna try to read the whole series.

        • Same! But then again I’ve only read his Mistborn trilogy and have yet to read his other books yet 🙈 I know I need to get on it lol but they’re so hard to find here and they’re also SO EXPENSIVE wow.
YES TO READING THE WHOLE SERIES! Omg, I’m SO EXCITED and honestly terrified for Darkdawn but …. I know I’m not gonna be able to hold off reading it for much longer lol I hope you love it Sammie! 😍

          • Does Book Depository deliver there? The paperbacks are usually cheaper-ish (like $10 or less) on BD, but those are the mass market paperback (which are the copies we have) for some of his older novels. Like Elantris and Warbreaker and OMG you should read Warbreaker! Also totally loved the Reckoners series.

I hope I do, too. I’m sure I will. ❤ I can't wait, but I really need to finish at least one ARC before picking it up. xD I'm trying haha.

    • Ooh, I haven’t heard anything about the audiobook but I hope that it’s a good one! I’m really picky with my audios because if the narrator is boring I just can’t get into it and I’ll give up 🙈

  2. BTW, Sammie and I are totally stealing “possibility pile” from you but crediting you of course! I love that. Being mood readers means it’s super difficult to actually come up with and stick with a TBR so I feel that. I’m technically supposed to read HOSAS and WTFOH this month, but we will see if I even do it. I’m so slow omg.

    • Hahaha go for gold hun! I just find it’s so much more fitting than a TBR pile, especially for mood readers like us 😂I know it’s just a word, but like I find it TBRs have so much more pressure to be stuck to and I’m not about that kinda reading life haha oh and I totally feel you about the reads this month. Priory has taken priority (hah) although I see you’ve still been doing heaps of other reads! I just wouldn’t have picked up Priory again if I put it down LOL 😅

  3. Geez, I’m really behind. I loved Unwind and Challenger Deep and didn’t know that Shusterman had another series out!
Great list and I hope you read some great books this fall!

    • How good does it sound, right? Someone wrote a review yesterday saying that after reading TIABM Josh and Hazel are no longer their favourite CLo couple and I was shook 😱because J+H are my faves! So excited 😍

  4. OOh nice! I still need to read Thunderhead but I hope to sneak that one in this fall too! And ooh Serpent and Dove is another one I am eyeing! Great picks! I hope you enjoy all of these this fall!

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

  6. YES YES YES for House of Salt and Sorrows!!! One of my favorites of the year! Also, it took me a REALLY long time to like Wicked Saints, but at the end, I knew I had to continue the series lol. I’m looking forward to Ruthless Gods. Hope we get to read all the books on our TBR this fall!

    • YAY! I’m so excited to hear you say that. I’ve been really looking forward to reading it ever since I heard of it so I’m hoping that my avoidance tendencies don’t kick in and I do end up reading it this season 😂🙈Okay, good to know about Wicked Saints. I think I’ve heard enough mixed reviews to keep my expectations on low-medium haha I hope you enjoy all your fall reads 🧡

  7. There are so many on here that I’m DYING to try!! The Toll, With the Fire on High, The Bone Houses, HOSAS… it’s such a dreamy list ❤ MALAMANDER though… I'm keen to try out some MG and the reviews on this are all so positive! Which book are you most looking forward to? Here is my TTT post if you’re interested in Graphic Novels being released in Fall ❤ Jen

    • Thanks Jen! Sorry for the late reply, work and life has been a little hectic! I haven’t read MG in a long while but I’m really keen to pick up Malamander. It looks so cute and sounds really good 😊Oh, I don’t know which I’m looking forward to most. The Toll, maybe? Honestly, I want to read them all at the same time, damn it! Haha 😂

  8. House of Salt and Sorrows is AMAZING. I really liked Wicked Saints (I actually didn’t the first time I read it, but then I went back and reread it and liked it. IDK). I think some of the don’t like is apparently there was a controversy with the author? I only heard about it second hand on twitter, so I don’t know that much about it. (But it may explain the divide??)

ANYWAYS you have such an awesome list! Also…possibility pie…yes please. I am such a mood reader. I make TBRs. Do I stick to them? Ehhh…no.

    • Ooh, I didn’t know there’s controversy with the author?! I didn’t hear about that 😱 While I’ve seen a fair bit of drama popping up on Twitter since I joined it earlier this year, I think I missed that one 😅 I’ve heard the book is a bit confusing initially, esp with the character names? I might struggle with that one too but let’s see! Glad to hear you ended up really liking it though! And I’m SO excited for HOSAS!

Also, yaaas, forever a mood reader and possibility piles totally work for me 😂 I can never stick to them and when I try I always get stressed out. So not worth it! Haha thanks for stopping by and reading my post 😃

  9. You’ll be fine with Bone Houses, I think. It is excellent and not scary like SCARY.
I’m with you on House of Salt and Sorrows. Major FOMO over here.
I have a game plan for Toll now that I know how long it is (I missed that somehow)

    Great list!

  10. I’m so on board with the idea of a possibility pile over an exacting TBR!!! And OMG. Skyward is gonna be my first Sanderson. Just reserved it in the library this week :)))) Great TTT Dini (sorry I’m so late getting around to your posts this week…life Dini! 🙄) <333333

    • Totally feel you, Emer! Sometimes you just need to step away and let life roll in haha 😂 I’m still catching up on comments, posts etc. too, so all gravy! I’m definitely more of a ‘possibility pile’ girl rather than TBR (even though it’s just a matter of wording, it seems to make a difference 🤣) I’m SO excited for you to read Skyward! I hope you enjoy Sanderson. I’m so excited for it too 🥰

  11. I just read my first book by the Christina Lauren writing duo (‘The Unhoneymooners’). Didn’t love it, but I liked it well enough that I’ll give another of theirs a chance! Hope you enjoy their newest, and all of these autumn TBR possible reads. 🙂 Appreciate you visiting Finding Wonderland.
